2023-24 Fantasy Hockey Week 12 Weekly Planner

2024 is nearly here! Thanks for spending another year with the latest edition of the 2023-24 Fantasy Hockey Week 13 Weekly Planner.

The new year is less than 24 hours away, which means that the NHL Winter Classic is upon us. It'll be a battle of the expansion teams, with the Vegas Golden Knights traveling north to take on the Seattle Kraken. The teams will do battle at T-Mobile Park, the home of the MLB's Seattle Mariners, on January 1st at 3:00 PM ET.

Seattle enters the Winter Classic two points out of a Wild Card spot with a record of 14-14-9 (37 Points). Meanwhile, their Pacific Division rivals in Vegas are tied for the division lead with Vancouver (22-10-5, 49 Points). This should be another great event and should make for an even better hockey game.

What else do we have to watch during the new week? Let's get into the 2023-24 Fantasy Hockey Week 13 Weekly Planner to find out.

2023-24 Fantasy Hockey Week 13 Weekly Planner

January 1, 2024 – January 7, 2024

Top Targets

Sean Durzi, Defense, Arizona Coyotes (70% Rostered)

Since his return from a lower-body injury, Sean Durzi has been an unstoppable force on the Coyotes' backend. The 25-year-old has points in the three straight games since returning; one goal and six assists.

The Coyotes are playing entertaining hockey of late, and Durzi's contribution to the team at even strength and the powerplay is one reason why. Since being traded over from the Kings this summer, he has supplied the team with six goals and 14 assists. Whether he is playing alongside J.J. Moser or Michael Kesselring, he's been able to produce and find his way onto the scoresheet.

Tyler Seguin, Center/Right Wing, Dallas Stars (37% Rostered)

In past weeks, I've previously mentioned the production of Dallas' second line including Mason Marchment and Matt Duchene. Now, it's time we talk about the third member - Tyler Seguin.

Seguin has remained an anchor for the Stars and has been the playmaker for his line. He recently had a point streak ranging five games with four assists and remains a steady offensive option for the team surrounded by excellent scoring. The Stats have the eighth most goals in the NHL, so Seguin's assist number should continue to rise with the talent on the team.

Joel Farabee, Left Wing, Philadelphia Flyers (16% Rostered)

He may be a third-liner on the team, but Joel Farabee is putting up numbers like a top-six option.

Farabee currently sits in third on the Flyers in points (24) while being second on the team in goals (12). These numbers are impressive enough, but all that more spectacular coming from outside of the team's top-six forward group. He also probably deserves more powerplay time and should earn that soon.

While it may not be worth it to have a third-line forward on your fantasy team, we suggest buying into the Farabee stock early while you can. Throughout the entire season, he has remained one of the more impressive Flyers and is one reason why the Flyers are sitting in second place in the very competitive Metropolitan Division.

Injury Alerts

Zach Werenski, Defense, Columbus Blue Jackets

It finally looked as though Zach Werenski was back to his old self, producing on both ends of the ice. Unfortunately, he has picked up another injury and is expected to miss several games.

Werenski made a great defensive play on Ondrej Palat but became tangled when trying to break the puck out. He was forced to leave the game in the second period and he is still being evaluated to identify the extent of his injury. According to Coach Vincent, the injury looks to be more week-to-week rather than day-to-day.

We can only hope Werenski is back to full health soon. The Blue Jackets also hope he is back as quickly as possible, as he provided 24 helpers through his first 33 games this season.

Mikhail Sergachev, Defense, Tampa Bay Lightning

Following a blocked shot last week, Mikhail Sergachev is expected to miss a few more games for the Tampa Bay Lightning. He has already missed three games, and the team isn't expecting him back any time soon.

Sergachev is the second-leading point scorer of defensemen in Tampa and remains an extremely valuable piece for the team's success. Though he isn't expected to miss a whole lot of time, the team hopes that he is back as quickly as possible.

Team Worth Watching This Week

Washington Capitals

Did anybody think that the Washington Capitals could stay afloat if Alex Ovechkin isn't scoring? I surely didn't, but the Capitals remain in the Metropolitan Division fight.

This week ahead will help us determine whether the Caps are for real as they take on three division rivals. It'll start with a quick meeting in Pittsburgh for another chapter in the Ovechkin vs. Crosby rivalry. They'll then travel home for three straight games against the Devils, Hurricanes, and the Kings. It won't be easy, but it'll tell us what the Capitals are.

To remain competitive, they are going to need to find some scoring. As of today, the team has the second-fewest goals in the NHL (76) only ahead of the San Jose Sharks (74). It doesn't help when the greatest goalscorer of the generation, only 66 goals behind Wayne Gretzky, has only scored six times this year.

If the team can begin to score like we all expect them to score, they should be able to make a push for the division. I'm thinking this could be the week where this begins.
