2023-24 Fantasy Hockey Week 16 Weekly Planner

We are one week away from NHL All-Star Weekend. Teams are starting to reflect on their play so far to decide if they are going to be trade deadline buyers or sellers. The season is moving too fast, but let's slow it down for a bit with this week's 2023-24 Fantasy Hockey Week 16 Weekly Planner.

Since I last left you, nothing has changed with the Edmonton Oilers. We've seen them tie the longest winning streak in NHL history by a Canadian team at 12 games. Looking ahead at their upcoming schedule, there is a chance that they can reach the all-time NHL record at 17 games. I'll be sure to let you know in the Week 17 Weekly Planner!

Also in Edmonton, Connor McDavid is back to being the best player in the world. After dealing with a slow (by his standards) start to the year, McDavid has supplied the team with 46 points over his last 25 games. This also includes a 12-game point streak where he's been able to add 18 points (five goals and 13 assists). The talk around the league is all Oilers!

Of course, there are plenty of other teams playing around the league. I think it's about time that we find out what those other teams are up to this week! Let's get into the 2023-24 Fantasy Hockey Week 16 Weekly Planner.

2023-24 Fantasy Hockey Week 16 Weekly Planner

January 22, 2024 – January 28, 2024

Top Targets

Blake Coleman, Center/Right Wing, Calgary Flames (81% Rostered)

Did anybody see Blake Coleman as the Calgary Flames' leading point scorer through the midway point of the season? Well, here we are!

Heading into Week 16, Coleman's 38 points (20 goals and 18 assists) leads the team that is fighting for a Western Conference Wild Card spot. He's been paired together with Mikael Backlund and the duo have been outshooting teams 292-240. They've recently added Andrew Mangiapane to the line, and the trio outscore their opponents 13-6 through 185:00 of ice time together.

Through his last 12 games, Coleman has provided the team with 10 goals and six assists. Look to see if he can continue with this pace through the new week!

Brock Faber, Defense, Minnesota Wild (41% Rostered)

In his first full season in the NHL, Brock Faber has jumped effortlessly into the Wild's foundation for the future. The 21-year-old leads the Wild defensemen in points (two goals and 20 assists) and is also sixth when looking at the entire team's point leaders. He's also taking a stretch of six assists in seven games into the new week.

As of today, the Wild are a long shot for a playoff spot but don't expect the poor play to slow down Brock Faber. The team will continue to let Faber grow into his NHL-self which is great for fantasy owners. He'll be on the ice for powerplays, penalty kills, and all other situations that come up.

Sam Bennett, Center, Florida Panthers (30% Rostered)

When healthy, Sam Bennett has been a valuable piece of the Florida Panthers offense. This year is no different, and he is playing on a line with some guys that will only help increase the production.

In over 278 minutes together, the trio of Bennett, Carter Verghaeghe, and Matthew Tkachuk are outscoring opponents 17-12 and also outshooting them 166-154. Bennett is also finding time on the team's second powerplay unit, adding three goals and four assists while a man up.

Not many teams in the league can produce offense like the Florida Panthers. Because of it, a player like Sam Bennett can be a player that makes a difference on your fantasy team.

Injury Alerts

Jack Eichel, Center, Vegas Golden Knights

In his most recent game last Thursday's, Jack Eichel came out with a two-point effort (one goal and one assist). Now, he has undergone knee surgery and is expected to miss at least four weeks. While it doesn't seem like it has any impact on his previous neck surgery, it is still a cause for concern for Eichel who has endured a handful of injuries in his career.

The Golden Knights will need to figure out a plan to temporarily replace their second leading point scorer for an extended length of time. This comes after already losing fourth leading point scorer William Karlsson until early February.

Patrick Kane, Right Wing, Detroit Red Wings

Patrick Kane has seemingly exceeded expectations already since joining the Detroit Red Wings. Unfortunately, the team is now going to be without him for a little bit. This comes following Kane's removal in Sunday's game after just 1:07 of ice time when he took a hit along the boards.

With Kane's late start to the season because of hip surgery, there is major concern with the latest lower body injury. The team is still waiting for more information on the extent of Kane's injury, but there is a chance that the 35-year-old will miss an extended period of time.

Matty Beniers, Center, Seattle Kraken

The Seattle Kraken may have won Saturday's game against the Blue Jackets, but they did lose out on one of their key players.

Matty Beniers was absent when the team returned to for the third period. This came following a big hit that Beniers received from Cole Sillinger. He has since been placed on injured reserve with an upper body injury and is required to sit out a minimum of four games. The team hasn't made it clear as to how long they expect to be without Beniers, but the Kraken will need to fill a temporary hole on the top line.

Team Worth Watching This Week

Los Angeles Kings

As a team that got out to a red-hot start to the season, the Los Angeles Kings have finally come back down to earth. Heading into Week 16, the Kings are holding on to the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. Their recent slide (a 1-5-4 record in the last 10) has seen the Edmonton Oilers pass them in the midst of their extended winning streak.  They're going to need to keep pace with Edmonton this week and this is going to be the week where that happens.

Looking ahead, the Kings will have two games at home to kick off the week. It'll be matchups with the Sharks and Sabres, both seem like winnable matchups based on skill-level. Things will be more difficult when they hit the road when they take on the Avalanche and Blues. Both teams are in the upper half of the league when it comes to goals allowed, so the Kings' middling offense will need to get to work.

The team is going to need their top units to start producing like we all know they can. Anze Kopitar, Quinton Byfield, and Arthur Kaliyev remain in the team's top six, but have been struggling to get the offensive production going. Seeing as they are set to take on a few teams with unreliable goaltending, this could be a breakout week for the trio. Similarly, they need more production from a guy like Pierre-Luc Dubois who was acquired for a hefty hall during the offseason.

This could surely be the week that the Kings straighten the ship and find the back of the net, but it'll be their big guns needing to step it up. A lot is on the line as we near the All-Star Break, so it'll be worth watching how the Kings respond this week.
