2023-24 Fantasy Hockey Week 2 Waiver Wire

The National Hockey League is back! With nearly a week's worth of games in the books, we can now start tinkering with our rosters. For the 2023-24 Fantasy Hockey Week 2 Waiver Wire and future weeks, I will be using Yahoo for position eligibility.

I'm going to highlight some players across all positions you might find on the wire in 12-team leagues. Since it's only been one week, I don't have any drop suggestions. Give your draft selections at least a two-week showcase.

Based on your league settings, player values swing accordingly. Exotic ones like FOW, SHP, TK, etc. can make the wire a gold mine.

If in need of assistance with certain categories, the following 2023-24 Fantasy Hockey Week Two Add/Drops may make sense for you.

Adds

Eetu Luostarinen, C/LW, Florida Panthers

This is a breakout alert regarding the 25-year-old Finnish center. Florida is a deep offense that when healthy would see Eetu out of the top six. Sam Bennett looks to be sidelined for a couple of weeks per coach Paul Maurice, elevating Luostarinen to the second-line center role.

Exposure to Matthew Tkachuk is enough reason to add. Even after Bennett's return, he can still be of value playing with Sam Reinhart on line three.

Filip Chytil, C, New York Rangers

It is becoming clear that Chris Drury's non-negotiable aspect in the hire of a new head coach was the youth movement.  As a New York Rangers fan, I've wanted to see the 24-year-old Czech center in a more prominent role.

Last season saw a doubling of his one-year point total mostly on the third line. Now he's with cerebral Artemi Panarin and former first overall pick, Alexis Lafreniere. The line looked great in their first game. Hop on board.

Jonathan Drouin, LW, Colorado Avalanche

Drouin might be the purest form of a "change of scenery grab" you may possibly get this season. Operating purely on speculation, I would give the former Halifax Moosehead a chance, now reunited with former teammate, Nathan McKinnon.

These two absolutely clowned the QMJHL in their junior days. Should a reunion reignite Drouin, watch out. The former Montreal Canadien shot under three percent in two of the prior three years. Positive regression has to be coming.

Victor Olofsson, LW/RW, Buffalo Sabres

If you're in need of goals look no further than one of the heaviest shots in the game. Like Luostarinen above, Victor finds himself buried on a deep offense. Despite this, you can pencil in for 20 goals, clearing the plateau in three of the past four seasons.

Last year his shooting % was a career high. Expect a slight decline in conversion. If you've seen the Swedish winger shoot though, you know he's going to get his biscuits. Dual eligible.

Connor Murphy, D, Chicago Blackhawks

Your team seems Charmin soft in the grit department? The 30-year-old Murphy would be a great addition to your roster. Any points you get are a bonus, expect nothing. He is more or less going to give you ten plus though.

Usually, he provides a nice even split of hits and blocks, very capable of clearing 150 in each. Last season he also had 69 PIM to boot. Any exposure to Connor Bedard can't be bad.

Pyotr Kochetkov, G, Carolina Hurricanes

This suggestion only applies to those with NA spots on their roster(s). This is the Canes goalie of the future and he has two men made of glass ahead in the depth chart. These two will get hurt, you can count on it. As soon as one goes down he is getting the call up.

Taylor Hall, LW, Chicago Blackhawks

He was originally labeled week-to-week after leaving a game against the Boston Bruins but now miraculously seems on the verge of a return. Maybe an owner discarded him when the week-to-week designation was made so check your wire. Don't burn waiver priority for him, wait for free agent designation. Then snatch him.
