2023-24 Fantasy Hockey Week 23 Weekly Planner

The NHL Trade Deadline has now come and gone. There was plenty of action this year, and we can get into it in the 2023-24 Fantasy Hockey Week 23 Weekly Planner.

A 3:00 PM ET deadline saw several teams making moves throughout the day to support their current rosters. No teams made a bigger splash than the Vegas Golden Knights and the Carolina Hurricanes. The two collected some of the top trade targets like Noah Hanifin, Jake Guentzel, Evgeny Kuznetsov, and Tomas Hertl.

Teams will now gear up for what they can only hope is an extended playoff run. Just about every team currently holding a playoff spot made a move to bolster the lineup. These organizations will now have roughly five weeks to acclimate the new acquisitions into the lineup and build rapport for the postseason.

Or in some cases, a race to win the Macklin Celebrini draft sweepstakes. The 17-year-old forward from Boston University is expected to be the first overall selection in next year's draft.

Let's begin our push to the season finale with the 2023-24 Fantasy Hockey Week 23 Weekly Planner.

Top Targets

Chris Kreider, LW, New York Rangers (94% Rostered)

Could the Rangers be the team to beat in the Eastern Conference? They certainly can be because of the play of a guy like Chris Kreider. His veteran leadership is going to help the Rangers out immensely. And can do the same for your fantasy teams!

While he won't be reaching the 50-goal mark as he did back in 2021, his 57 points (31 goals and 25 assists) make for the second-highest point season of his career. The success is largely in part to his work with linemate Mika Zibanejad. The two are essential to the team's success, adding 34 goals when on the ice together.

The Rangers have FIVE games this week, which is the most we've seen a team have during a week so far. Be sure to get some Rangers' representation in your lineups with fantasy playoffs on the horizon.

Tyler Toffoli, LW/RW, Winnipeg Jets (84% Rostered)

Tyler Toffoli has been traded! The Winnipeg Jets have acquired the 31-year-old Toffoli for a second-round pick in 2025 and a third-round pick in 2024.

Winnipeg has had an effective year so far in New Jersey, racking up 26 goals and 15 assists. 14 of his points have also come on the power play, which will help the Jets improve their 24th ranked powerplay.

It's still too early to tell who he will be playing with, but Toffoli's stock is going to rise very quickly. He is now playing with a good team with playoff aspirations, so go out and get this guy on your team before it's too late.

Gustav Forsling, D, Florida Panthers (75% Rostered)

Fresh off of an eight-year contract extension with the Panthers, Gustav Forsling is a top target for fantasy purposes. The 27-year-old is having a breakout year and is well on his way to passing all of his career highs across the board. So far, he has registered 10 goals and 22 assists this season and should be able to add more given the team's high-powered offense.

Florida has been strict on keeping lines together, which is why Forsling has been able to build strong chemistry with Aaron Ekblad. The two are the team's go-to pair when needing offense and have shared the ice for 33 goals this year while outshooting teams 346-287.

Forsling will make for a great fantasy addition through the rest of the season while Florida continues their fight for the President's Trophy.

Injury Alerts

Dylan Larkin, C, Detroit Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings are preparing to fight for the final spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Unfortunately, they will have to do it without their team captain.

Dylan Larkin is expected to miss approximately two weeks with a lower-body injury picked up last Saturday. The team is entering crunch time and will be navigating the must-win games without their leading goal scorer (26) and point scorer (54). He's expected to be back with the team roughly two weeks before the end of the regular season, and the team will surely need him come playoff time.

Kent Johnson, C, Columbus Blue Jackets

In what was originally hoped to be a breakout year for 21-year-old Kent Johnson will now end with disappointment.

Johnson was injured at the end of February and has undergone surgery for a torn labrum ending his 2023-2024 campaign. The University of Michigan product registered 16 points (six goals and 10 assists) during his 42 games this season. He'll begin his offseason early with rehab, and hopefully come into the new season next year taking the next step into stardom.

Marcus Johansson, Left Wing, Minnesota Wild

Marcus Johansson has been placed on injured reserve by the Minnesota Wild with a lower-body injury. The Wild saw him exit from Saturday's game after just 2:47, and will now be without him for another couple of games.

Minnesota is well out of a playoff spot right now, but anything can happen in the Wild West(ern Conference). If they're going to make a push for the postseason, they will want Johansson and his veteran playoff experience in the lineup.

Team Worth Watching This Week

Vegas Golden Knights

No team does the NHL Trade Deadline like the Vegas Golden Knights. Every year, GM Kelly McCrimmon has gone to work and done what he could to enforce the roster. This year is no different, as the Vegas GM has spent the week filling areas of need for the cup-contending team adding players such as Noah Hanifin and Anthony Mantha, then sneaking in one final move to grab Tomas Hertl.

We discussed Hanifin last week as the Flames were on watch given the likelihood of selling major pieces ahead of the deadline. Vegas will be adding a top defenseman who can easily contribute to the offensive and defensive ends of the ice, supplying 11 goals and 24 assists this year for Calgary.

The Golden Knights have also added Anthony Mantha to the lineup for a couple of draft picks. After a few down years, Mantha has stepped things up by hitting the 20-goal mark for the first time since 2019. He'll likely get some top-six minutes alongside Chandler Stephenson and William Karlsson.

Just minutes before the deadline buzzer, Vegas was able to pull out the biggest deal of the day involving star Tomas Hertl. The 30-year-old was brought in while on injured reserve with a knee injury. He'll be expected to be back by the playoffs and is also locked up until 2030. I'm not sure anybody saw this potential trade happening, but this just adds to the incredible deadline resume that GM Kelly McCrimmon has built.

Many teams improved following Friday's deadline, but it feels like Vegas will be the team to beat moving forward. We'll see how they kick things off post-deadline with road matchups against the Kraken and Flames, and then a home meeting with the Devils.
