2023-24 Fantasy Hockey Week 8 Weekly Planner

Who's ready for more hockey? We are officially past American Thanksgiving, and the season schedule is about to pick up. 16 teams will prepare for a back-to-back this week, and we'll see which teams are cut out for the busy schedule. Let's look ahead in the 2023-24 Fantasy Hockey Week 8 Weekly Planner!

There are a few different teams that are streaking as we move into the new week. Some teams are enjoying the streak like the Islanders (W3), Kings (W4), and the Jets (W5). Some streaks see teams falling down the standings like the Devils (L3), Coyotes (L3), and the Ducks (L5).

Week 8 will feature some rivalries, like Original Six battles between the Red Wings and Rangers (Wednesday) along with the Bruins and Maple Leafs (Saturday). We will also see a battle that will feature the two best teams in the Western Conference when the Golden Knights travel to take on the Canucks (Thursday).

It is going to be an action-packed week, and I can't wait to get into it in this week's 2023-24 Fantasy Hockey Week 8 Weekly Planner.

2023-24 Fantasy Hockey Week 8 Weekly Planner

November 27, 2023 - December 3, 2023

Top Targets

Owen Tippett, Right Wing, Philadelphia Flyers (49% Rostered)

We have hit American Thanksgiving, and the Philadelphia Flyers are fighting for playoff positioning in the Metropolitan Division. What was supposed to be another rebuilding year in Philly has quickly become a year worth watching largely part of the production of players like Owen Tippett.

The 24-year-old has continued his strong play this season following a breakout year last season in his first full year as a Flyer. Through 17 games, he has found the back of the net seven times while adding seven assists. You'll also find Tippett on the team's top powerplay unit for additional opportunities to produce.

Throughout most of the season, he's been paired on the opposite wing of Cam Atkinson and the two have been a lethal combination during the early part of the year. The duo is outshooting opponents 95-79 when on the ice together, so see if you can grab the pair for your fantasy team for double the production!

Trevor Moore, Left Wing, Los Angeles Kings (37% Rostered)

Trevor Moore is off to a roaring start in Los Angeles and looks like he should comfortably pass his career highs in both goals and points. The 28-year-old has recorded 17 points (nine goals and eight assists) through 18 games and could be the perfect pickup for your fantasy team.

Finding comfort with your linemates is essential for success, and Moore's chemistry with Phillip Danault has been massive. The duo are outshooting opponents 95-72 when on the ice together, and have 76 scoring chances for to 63 against. The team has also added Kevin Fiala's 19 points to the line, and the three have been more than advertised.

{Editors Note: Were you in our NHL DFS Discord group earlier this week? You might have seen Mark's recommendation to play Moore who rewarded his owners handsomely that night!}

Expect the trio to stay together for the foreseeable future, and carry the production for a playoff-bound Kings team. Ownership of Moore is low as of now, so be sure to capitalize before it is too late.

Oliver Bjorkstrand, Right Wing, Seattle Kraken (36% Rostered)

He may be listed as a third-line winger for the Seattle Kraken, but Oliver Bjorkstrand is showing that he is much more than that. The team leader in points (19) through the first part of the season should continue to find his opportunities and make himself a strong candidate for fantasy hockey.

Bjorkstrand, paired with Eeli Tolvanen and Yanni Gourde, has become one of the stronger third lines in the entire league. All three players are among the Kraken's top-five scorers and play significant powerplay time.

Before Friday, Bjorkstrand registered seven points (one goal and six assists) over five games. The Kraken will continue to rely on this line's production as they look to hang with the other playoff contenders in the Pacific Division.

Injury Alerts

Taylor Hall, Left Wing, Chicago Blackhawks

What was supposed to be such a promising season for Taylor Hall with his new team has ended in a halt. The former MVP is expected to miss the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery.

Hall had only played 10 games so far with the Blackhawks, as he missed a few games early on with different injuries. Through the handful of games, he was able to record two goals and two assists playing alongside Connor Bedard.

He'll now get a head start on preparing for the 2024 season.

Rickard Rakell, Right Wing, Pittsburgh Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced that Rickard Rakell has been placed on long-term injured reserve. The 30-year-old has been suffering from an upper-body injury, and will now be out for at least the next 10 games.

It's been an unusually slow start for Rickard, who has only registered four points (four assists) through his first 17 games into the season. There wasn't a clear understanding of where he was injured, so it is possible that this has been lingering and affected his play through the start of the season.

The Penguins hope to get Rakell back to his normal self soon, as his role in the top six will be crucial to the team's success.

T.J. Oshie, Right Wing, Washington Capitals

After a heavy collision with Mattias Ekholm, T.J. Oshie was ruled out of Friday's contest with an upper-body injury. Information on the injury hasn't yet been announced, but we do know that Oshie won't join the team to begin their upcoming trip to San Jose.

It hasn't been the greatest start of the season for Oshie so far, only registering two points through 17 games. His absence will be felt, though, as the Capitals continue their fight for a playoff spot after missing last season.

Team Worth Watching This Week

New York Rangers

Could this be the year of the New York Rangers? The Metropolitan Division leaders have had a dominating start to the year, and Week 8 looks to be one that will help them further the gap.

The Rangers have played excellent hockey through the first two months of the season, trailing only the Boston Bruins and Vegas Golden Knights for the best record in the NHL. The early season success can be attributed to their goaltending.

It's been expected that Igor Shesterkin would carry the weight of the team, but the unexpected resurgence of Jonathan Quick has helped massively. Quick currently leads the NHL in Goals Against Average (1.68) and Save Percentage (.940) and is only 40% owned in Yahoo Fantasy leagues!

Not to be outdone by the goaltending is their offensive production. Leading the way right now is Artemi Panerin with 26 points through 18 games, who recently saw his 15-game point streak come to an end. The team is also seeing production from the usual suspects like Chris Kreider and Mika Zibanejad.

Week 8 will see the Blue Shirts play some favorable matchups against the Sharks and Sabres, who have struggled to put the puck in the back of the net. Look for some Rangers to help support your upcoming fantasy matchup while they try and secure themselves atop the division.
