2023 Devy Week 7 Stock Up-Stock Down

Welcome to the 2023 Devy Week 7 Stock Up-Stock Down. This article each week will go with my Devy Rankings which are updated every week.

This week in College Football delivered some amazing games. Oregon and Washington played a back-and-forth slugfest, Notre Dame absolutely dominated USC while Stanford pulled of an enormous comeback and shocked Colorado.

There were some huge performances in Week 7. Rome Odunze shined in an instant classic against Oregon, J.J. McCarthy shredded Indiana and Ollie Gordon II carried Oklahoma State to victory.

Let's get to our Devy Stock Up-Stock Down for the week.

Stock Up

J.J. McCarthy, QB, Michigan Wolverines, JR

Drake Maye, Caleb Williams and Michael Penix Jr may be tracking all the draft hype, but JJ McCarthy is also making a case to be drafted early on draft night.

McCarthy was near perfect on Saturday going 14 for 17 with 222 yards and three passing touchdowns. He also rushed for 27 yards during the game.

His 92.6 QBR leads the entire county and he only has managed to turn the ball over three times (all in the first week of the season. He has some pretty tough matches coming up against Ohio State and Penn State. Playing well in both of those games will go a long way on how some scouts view him.

Rome Odunze, WR, Washington Huskies, JR

Odunze put on a show against Oregon with the nation watching. Washington and Oregon battled it out until the last seconds and Odunze caught the game-winning touchdown, showing the country just how dynamic of a playmaker he is.

He was all over the field on Saturday, catching eight passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Odunze has gone over 100 yards in all but one of his games this season.

There is very little doubt that Ozdune will hear his name in the first round of the draft. If he keeps playing like this, he may be one of the first WR off the board.

Ollie Gordon II, RB, Oklahoma State Cowboys, SO

I would be willing to bet that a lot of people are not well-versed on Ollie Gordon III but after this week's performance he put the nation on notice.

Ollie was electric as both a running back and a receiver in an upset win over Kansas. He rushed for 168 yards, caught six passes for 116 yards and scored through the air and on the ground.

This was a bit of a coming out party for Gordon who now has over 100 yards rushing in three straight games. Gordon is one that could go very high in devy drafts next season if he does not turn pro.

Stock Down

As far as stock down goes, some guys are struggling a bit this season. The ones that jump out to me are as follows:

Emeke Egbuka, WR, Ohio State Buckeyes, JR

Going into the season, with all the eyes on Marvin Harrison JR, I had high hopes that Egbuka would draw a lot of single coverage and flourish. That has not been the case. Now Egbuka has not been awful, he just has not popped as I had expected.

Brock Bowers, TE, Georgia Bulldogs, JR

The stock is not really down on Bowers, he just suffered a pretty bad ankle injury this past week. He needed surgery and is out indefinitely. This is a major blow to the Bulldogs offense but do not do anything rash and drop or trade him. He will still be a very high draft pick and has all the potential to be a fantasy monster at the TE position.
