2023 Fantasy Baseball Pitching Planner (7/24 - 7/30)

We are officially in the middle of the Dog Days of Summer. And yes, it's been scorching hot. But with great heat, comes great home run potential, so it's more important than ever to make sure you look at every starting pitcher matchup. Without further ado, here is your 2023 Fantasy Baseball Pitching Planner (7/24 - 7/30)!

As we take a dive into this week's pitching planner, check out the two-start matchups. There are a lot of studs and duds that need a second look based on the analytics. You may think it's a no-brainer to start your ace, but I'm here to make you think differently!

The 2023 Fantasy Baseball Pitching Planner (7/24 - 7/30) includes a table listing all the two-start pitchers and their grades for each matchup, based on opposing team wRC+ splits. This table can help when it comes to deciding whether to actually plug in a two-start pitcher or not. Just because you have a pitcher with two starts that week doesn't necessarily mean you should start him!

Two-Start Pitchers

Justin Verlander, Mets (@NYY, WSH)

Verlander has had a solid season so far, but has looked like a much worse pitcher away from Citi Field. He has a 2.34 ERA at home and a 5.18 ERA away. However, the Yankees have been struggling lately. With no Aaron Judge in the lineup, the offense has scuffled. Anthony Rizzo completely fell off a cliff. So despite Verlander's iffy stats on the road, I think this is a safe matchup for him. He should also dominate the Nationals later in the week. Keep the three-time Cy Young Award Winner in your lineup.

Yu Darvish, Padres (PIT, TEX)

Darvish has been a better pitcher at home this year, but the matchup against the Rangers really dampens what could have been a nice two-start week. The Pirates have been one of the more favorable opponents for starting pitchers this season. They only have a .236 batting average and .313 on-base percentage, both which rank in the bottom 10. However, Corey Seager and the Rangers have been extraordinary. They have the top offense in baseball with a scorching hot 122 wRC+. If you're able to bench Darvish against Texas, I would do so. And if you have the lock in Yu for the whole week, then take a hard look before rolling the dice.

Hunter Brown, Astros (TEX, TB)

The Rangers and Rays in a single week? There's no much more to say. Stay far far away.

Eduardo Rodriguez, Tigers (LAA, @MIA)

After missing close to two months, Rodriguez has looked solid since his return. In his last start, the lefty went 7 strong innings giving up just 4 hits and striking out 7. He's back to form and will look to build on his 2.69 ERA and 0.97 WHIP. Meanwhile, the Angels are trying to figure out life without Mike Trout, and the Marlins are still a middle of the pack offense. Look, it's not the most alluring matchup, but you have to still start Rodriguez this week as he continues to have a career year.

Nathan Eovaldi, Rangers (@HOU, @SD)

I don't love the matchups, as the Padres and Astros can still go off on any given night. But Eovaldi is in the CY Young discussion for a reason. And One of those reasons is her performance on the road this season. Away from Texas, he's still 6-1 with a 2.76 ERA and 1.09 WHIP. He's already dominated the Astros once this season, so why not do it again? It's not a sure-fire decision, but keep him in the lineup.

Logan Allen, Guardians (KC, @CHW)

Allen is probably my favorite two-start pitcher of the week. Look, the Guardians need someone to step up in Shane Beiber's place, and I think Allen is just the guy. Yes, he has a concerning 1.37 WHIP, but the raw talent is too promising to pass up. Both the White Sox and Royals rank toward the bottom of the totem pole on offense. Allen should take advantage of those matchups with ease. Trust this guy this week.
