2023 Fantasy Football Week 15 Recap

Welcome to the 2023 Fantasy Football Week 15 Recap.

It really felt like the Fantasy Football Playoffs got started on Sunday. I, myself, experienced at least 25 different emotions at some point during the day watching all of the games, and I doubt I am the only one who felt that way.

Not only was every NFL team in action this week, but nearly a third of them were operating with their backup QBs under center!

With all of that said, there is a lot of information to sort through to get ready for NFL Week 16 and the Fantasy Football Semi-Finals.

Raiders 63 - Chargers 21

In a week where several backup QBs became desperation starts in SuperFlex leagues, Aidan O’Connell was arguably the best, connecting on 4 TDs to go with 248 yards. Davante Adams was the biggest benefactor of O’Connell’s big day, hauling in eight of 12 targets for 101 yards and a TD on a trick play from Jakobi Meyers.

On the other sideline, backup Easton Stick held his own with 257 yards, 3 TDs, and one interception, connecting with Joshua Palmer on all four attempts for 113 yards and a score. The Chargers' run game was non-existent, while Quentin Johnston saved his day with a TD but was otherwise held in check.

Bengals 27 - Vikings 24

Jake Browning stayed hot with 324 yards and two TDs as the Bengals continued to stay afloat in the AFC Wild Card race. Tee Higgins hauled in four passes for 61 yards and two TDs, making an acrobatic play for the second that is in the running for the top play of the season. Ja'Marr Chase left this game with a shoulder injury and is likely to miss time.

Nick Mullens connected on 26/33 passes for 303 yards, 2 TDs, and 2 interceptions, joining the club of backup QBs who had games that potentially won a few weeks for Fantasy GMs. Jordan Addison led the team with 111 yards and two TDs, while Ty Chandler stepped up in his start with 132 yards and a TD on 23 carries.

Colts 30 - Steelers 13

Another game, another backup QB putting up big fantasy numbers in the playoffs… what a weird week. Gardner Minshew connected on 3 TDs to go with 215 yards in a game that saw a lot of different Colts skill players get involved after Michael Pittman Jr. and Zack Moss left the game with injuries.

Diontae Johnson had four catches for 62 yards and a TD while Jaylen Warren’s PPR numbers were propped up with five catches, as those two finished as the only players in black and yellow with double-digit fantasy points. The QB situation is a complete mess here, and it’s hard to trust anyone here in the fantasy playoffs.

Lions 42 - Broncos 17

Jared Goff is the reason a lot of fantasy teams are moving on to week 16, as he exploded for 278 yards and 5 TD passes in the most crucial week of the season to date. Sam LaPorta’s legendary rookie season continued in this one with 3 TD catches, as he is firmly the dynasty TE1 going into next season.

Russell Wilson threw for 233 yards and a TD while adding a rushing TD to prop up his final numbers. Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton were the most targeted WRs, combining for eight catches and 145 yards. The entire RB group was bottled up as none of them broke 50 total yards.

Browns 20 - Bears 17

David Njoku is another player who likely won a lot of teams this week, as his hot play continued with 10 catches for 104 yards and a score. Amari Cooper caught four passes for 109 yards, breaking free for a 51-yard TD that sent the game to OT.

DJ Moore caught four passes for 52 yards, accounting for almost a third of Justin Fields' 166 passing yards. Cole Kmet saved his day with a TD catch but otherwise, the entire Bears offense picked a really bad time to have an off-week.

Buccaneers 34 - Packers 20

Baker Mayfield went off for 381 yards and 4 TDs as the Buccaneers had one of the most productive days for Fantasy GMs in the league on Sunday. Rachaad White turned 23 touches into 139 yards and a TD, while Chris Godwin anchored the passing attack with 10 catches for 155 yards.

Aaron Jones turned 17 touches into 69 total yards in his return from injury and is a high-end RB3 for the rest of the fantasy playoffs. Tucker Kraft is looking like a legitimate option at TE the rest of the way, as he found the end zone and put up 57 yards on four catches.

Texans 19 - Titans 16

The Texans' offense was surprisingly productive with Case Keener under center. Devin Singletary paced the RB room with 121 yards while four different pass catchers racked up over 3 catches and 30 yards. Noah Brown led the way with 82 yards and a TD, while Singletary added to his big day on the ground with four catches for 49 yards.

Will Levis finished with 224 total yards and a rushing TD in a game where the Titans struggled to get a lot going in the second half. Derrick Henry was held to just 10 total yards, while Tyjae Spears broke free for 37 yards on 10 touches. Treylon Burks came out of nowhere to pace the pass catchers with 62 yards on 3 catches.

Dolphins 30 - Jets 10

Raheem Mostert scored twice to rack up his 20th TD on the season, as he is pretty clearly the fantasy MVP based on where he was drafted this off-season. With Tyreek Hill out, Jaylen Waddle stepped up with 142 yards and a TD, but it seems likely Hill will be back in week 16.

Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson are the only Jets anyone should even consider starting moving forward, and even that is looking questionable after they combined for just 47 combined yards on 10 total touches. You are living on the edge trusting anyone here in Week 16.

Chiefs 27 - Patriots 17

Rashee Rice is one of my biggest dynasty buys going into this offseason as he already seems fully ready to take the torch from Travis Kelce and operate as the number one option in the passing game. Rice had nine catches for 91 yards and a TD in this one, while Clyde Edwards-Helaire added four catches for 64 yards and a TD to save a lackluster day on the ground.

Basically, everything I said about the Jets is also true for the Patriots, except they don’t even have anyone as good as Breece Hall or Garrett Wilson. Ezekiel Elliott is a desperation flex start in deep leagues but otherwise, I’m avoiding this entire offense the rest of the way.

Saints 24 - Giants 6

Derek Carr connected with 10 different pass catchers en route to 218 yards and 3 TDs in the Saints' easy victory over the Giants. Alvin Kamara broke free for 110 total yards on 21 touches, leading the team with five catches for 44 yards.

Darren Waller caught four passes for 40 yards in his return from injury, and while you can definitely do worse at a weak TE position, I’d like to avoid starting him if at all possible in week 16. SaQuon Barkley was one of the bigger disappointments this week, finishing with 37 total yards.

Panthers 9 - Falcons 7

Chuba Hubbard finished with 103 total yards as the Panthers snuck out their 2nd of the season. Adam Thielen led the team with four catches for 43 yards and has cooled considerably from the heater he started the year on. Bryce Young and Jonathan Mingo’s value will be worth monitoring in dynasty leagues this offseason as they could turn into buy-low candidates after a tough rookie season.

At this point, I’m honestly starting to feel bad for Falcons fans. Your front office has done such a great job of adding talented skill players to the roster but Arthur Smith seems hell-bent on using anyone but them. Tyler Allegier and Jonnu Smith led the team in rushing and receiving yards and the Falcons predictably scored 7 points in a must-win game.

Rams 28 - Commanders 20

Kyren Williams overcame two fumbles to rack up 155 total yards and a TD as his huge second half of the season raged on for another week. Cooper Kupp caught 9 passes for 111 yards and a score, while Matt Stafford finished with 258 yards and two TD passes.

Predictably, Terry McLaurin had his best game of the season with 141 yards and a score right after most Fantasy GMs likely hit their breaking point and benched him. You have to love this game sometimes. Chris Rodriguez Jr led the team with 35 yards on 10 carries and is worth a bargain bin buy this offseason in dynasty leagues.

49ers 45 - Cardinals 29

Brock Purdy likely cemented his spot as the league MVP after another huge performance with 242 yards and four TD passes. Christian McCaffery was a monster as well, breaking free for 187 total yards and three TDs while George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, and Brandon Aiyuk were quiet, combining for just 150 total yards.

Trey McBride is going to be in strong consideration to move into the top-5 TEs in my next dynasty rankings update after his 10-catch, 102-yard performance against a tough 49ers defense. Kyler Murray finished with 269 total yards and a TD but was intercepted twice and briefly left the game after getting banged up.

Bills 31 - Cowboys 10

James Cook is looking like a legitimate league winner after the recent OC change, as he absolutely dominated the Cowboys' stout defense, gashing them for 221 total yards and two TDs. Josh Allen was held to 91 yards and 1 TD pass but added 24 yards and a rushing score to save his fantasy day.

Dak Prescott picked a bad week to have his worst game of the season, as he was held to 134 yards and an interception in an embarrassing loss. Jake Ferguson caught six passes for 44 yards while CeeDee Lamb scored a rushing TD late in the 4th quarter to prop up his final numbers after being held to just 53 yards.

Ravens 23 - Jaguars 7

Lamar Jackson shook off an early interception to finish with 268 total yards and a TD. Jackson's legs were the MVP in this game, not only for his 92 rushing yards but for the multiple instances of him extending the play and dodging defenders to make big plays down the stretch. Keaton Mitchell was on his way to a strong performance before going down with a pretty gruesome injury.

Trevor Lawrence finished with over 300 total yards and a TD but lost two key fumbles that brought his fantasy numbers back down to earth. Travis Etienne Jr. finished with 59 total yards on 14 touches, while Calvin Ridley and Evan Engram struggled with just 67 combined yards.
