2023 Fantasy Football Week 8 Waiver Wire

Hello Fantasy nerds! NFL Week 8 has wrapped up, which means it is to discuss the 2023 Fantasy Football Week 8 Waiver Wire!

What a wild ride Week 7 was. We had a good week of football, with some underdogs winning including the Chicago Bears, New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos who got their second wins of the season.

There is a ton happening around the league. I will be here every week helping to decipher what players are one-week surprises and which players can add value to your squad moving forward.

At this point of the season, every fantasy team is dealing with injuries or draft-day busts on their teams. That means this week the waiver wire is more imperative than ever this week even with no bye weeks.

In this article, we will be targeting players on the waiver wire who are under 50% owned on the FantasyPros consensus roster percentage.

At this point in the season, we are starting to get larger sample times, so it can be hard to find that waiver wire darling because the cupboards are bare. I am here to help with that. Now let's jump into the 2023 Fantasy Football Week 8 Waiver Wire!

Top Waiver Adds

Josh Downs, WR, Indianapolis Colts (35.3% Rostered)

I have been telling people to pick up Josh Downs for the past few weeks, and he is still under 50% rostered. With Gardner Minshew at quarterback, Downs is one of his favorite targets in this offense and has made his way into top-36 wide receiver range in FPPG.

Downs has scored over 10 fantasy points in three straight games while seeing at least six targets in each game. Last week we finally saw the ceiling from him as he caught five of his six targets for 125 yards and a touchdown finishing WR2 on the week with 21 half-point PPR points.

Marcus Lattimore of the Saints will draw most of the coverage on Michael Pittman, which leaves Downs with a solid matchup in the slot. I look for Downs to keep his double-digit fantasy point streak alive in this one.

Kendrick Bourne, WR, New England Patriots (24.3% Rostered)

Like Josh Downs, Kendrick Bourne is a top-36 wide receiver averaging just under 10 FPPG. He has put up back-to-back weeks in which he has finished as a top-18 wide receiver in each while seeing 18 targets in those two games.

This Patriots team seems to always be behind which is going to make Mac Jones chuck the ball all over the yard. They rank in the top-12 in the league in pass attempts.

The Pats get the Dolphins this week and we saw this matchup in Week 2. Bourne saw nine targets in the matchup but only caught four balls for 29 yards for 4.3 fantasy points. I expect a better performance from him in this one with the Dolphins secondary banged up.

Darrell Henderson Jr., RB, Los Angeles Rams (15.5% Rostered)

Oh boy, I am glad I did not put a Rams running back on this list last week, because I would have picked the wrong one. With Kyren Williams and Ronnie Rivers both hitting IR they picked up Darrell Henderson Jr. and he immediately took over as the RB1 in the offense.

Henderson saw 18 carries for just 61 yards but found the end zone. We know what Darrell Henderson is at this point in his career. He is just a guy who plots around and can find the end zone, but Sean McVay really seems to trust him. Henderson played 39 snaps to Royce Freeman's 29.

The next two games for Rams are against the Dallas Cowboys this week who have been good against the run, but the matchup against the Packers the following week is a great matchup. Packers have allowed the third most fantasy points to the position. Pick Darrell Henderson, but if you can afford to sit him on your bench, go ahead and do so.

Tyjae Spears, RB, Tennessee Titans (38.2% Rostered)

Spears was my top guy on this list two weeks ago and he disappointed a bit that week. It was Derrick Henry who had a big game on the ground for the Titans. However, Spears actually out-snapped Henry 31-29 once again this week. He still has a sustained role in this offense and needs to be rostered.

He saw just five touches in Week 6 but he still found a way to make a big play as he caught a short pass and took the ball 48 yards saving his fantasy football day to a certain extent. The Atlanta Falcons are very solid against opposing running backs, which could make the Titans lean on the pass-catching more explosive running back this week. Spears needs to be rostered more.

Emari Demercado, RB, Arizona Cardinals (16.1% Rostered)

I do not feel good putting Emari Demercado on this list after writing about his teammate Keaontay Ingram last week but I have to do it. The prior week Mercado out snapped Ingram, but Ingram produced him. This week Mercado did both finishing as RB22 this past week seeing 13 carries for 58 yards and catching four balls.

Ingram saw zero snaps this past week which is wild in itself, but Mercado played 53 snaps while Damien Williams backed him up playing just 12. The next two matchups are not great taking on the Ravens and Browns, but he should still see work in the passing game at the least. Mercado can be rostered but I am also not running out to grab him.

Ezekiel Elliott, RB, New England Patriots (43.2% Rostered)

Here we go again putting Zeke Elliot on this list, but you have too when the man finished as a top-24 in back-to-back weeks as he has found the end zone. He played just 21 snaps to Rhamondre Stevenson's 39 so there is a glaring gap in roles in this offense.

Zeke also does not have a role in the passing game as he has only seen one target in each of the last two games. He is very touchdowns dependent, but you may just need a warm body to throw in at your running back position. In a pinch, you could do worse in a good matchup against the Dolphins who allow the ninth most fantasy points to opposing running backs.
