Linebackers to Start

Kwon Alexander, Pittsburgh Steelers

We've seen this name a couple of times in previous articles but it is definitely worth mentioning again now that Cole Holcomb has been placed on IR. The journeyman has been in steady form even though he hasn't had as many opportunities to produce. Only appearing in 60.76% of defensive snaps this season, Alexander has managed to turn his time on the field into 41 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and an interception.

The injury to Holcomb opens up the potential for Alexander to expand his production. After catching the game-clinching interception against the Titans in Week 9, he will be full of confidence against the Green Bay Packers who have really struggled on offense in recent weeks.

Markquese Bell, Dallas Cowboys

This could equally be Damone Clark, but to avoid referencing another player I've used in recent weeks, Bell may even be available in some leagues to pick up on waivers. After the Raiders destroyed the New York Giants last week it would be very hard not to include one of their Week 10 opponents as a start.

Bell has been in very solid form in the absence of veteran Leighton Vander Esch. Since stepping up from a shallow safety role into the Cowboys' middle linebacker position he has excelled. This week against the Giants might be his best opportunity to score big this season, and I'm starting him in leagues where I have shares.

Linebackers to Sit

Luke Masterson, Las Vegas Raiders

Masterson missed out on the demolition job in Week 9 after going through concussion protocols. Masterson will likely have an uptick in snaps as Deablo is going through some injuries of his own (ankle) which he picked up against the Bears last week.

If Masterson does see more time on the field, it is difficult to see that he will produce on the field against the Jets in Week 10. The Wake Forest product has a bright future ahead in the NFL, but he is a sit this week.

Defensive Linemen to Start

Tuli Tuipulotu, Los Angeles Chargers

It's about time the rookie out of USC found his way onto my starting list. Last time out against the New York Jets, Tuipulotu had himself a day collecting five tackles and two sacks in the Chargers' demolition job on Zach Wilson.

This week the Chargers are up against Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions. The Lions have protected their quarterback well this season, but when faced with heavy blitz from two defensive ends, they have collapsed. This was the case in Week 7 against the Baltimore Ravens who sacked Goff five times.

Boye Mafe, Seattle Seahawks

Mafe has been a revelation for the Seahawks this season. The second-year pro has now extended his sack streak to six games in a row and will be looking to add to that tally against Sam Howell who has been sacked an incredible 47 times already this season.

In his last two outings, Mafe has accumulated 14 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. Week 10 promises to be a perfect match-up for Mafe.

Defensive Linemen to Sit

Preston Smith, Green Bay Packers

I have always had a soft spot for Smith after he helped me with a championship in 2019. One thing I have never been able to do as a fantasy owner of Smith is to place him in my starting lineup every week without fear. His production is almost always opponent dependent and in Week 10 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, this should prove to be a tough matchup.

In Week 9, the Tennessee Titans didn't manage to get a hand on Kenny Pickett and the Packers' defense will have a similar problem against an offensive line that has gelled well over the last few games.

Defensive Backs to Start

Amani Hooker, Tennessee Titans

Whenever you doubt Hooker he seems to get better and better, and he is probably the most consistent person on the Titans' defense. Hooker recorded seven tackles in his last three outings. Since Week 4 he has played in 100% of defensive snaps meaning he has the best chance to score fantasy points this week against a Buccaneers' quarterback who likes to hook the ball out to his receivers.

Josh Metellus, Minnesota Vikings

Metellus has been a standout performer for the Vikings in recent weeks, and in his last two games against weak opposition, he has totaled 13 tackles, a fumble recovery, and an interception for his troubles. With the Vikings' offense suffering injuries to several starters, the defense may be on the field more than usual.

If the trend continues and the Vikings' defense is on the field for nearly 70 snaps as was the case in the last two games without Kirk Cousins, we can count on Metellus to be involved in some way, shape, or form.

Defensive Backs to Sit

Tyrann Mathieu, New Orleans Saints

For the same reason Metellus is a start, Mathieu is on the sit list this week. With the Vikings' dire offense situation, they won't be on the field long enough for Mathieu to be involved in fantasy production.

While Mathieu is never a complete write-off in Week 10, it is a risky play. Mathieu hasn't produced big numbers this season so by the law of averages, it should prove to be another week of average fantasy points for him and anyone who starts him.
