Linebackers to Start

Eric Kendricks, Los Angeles Chargers

Since moving from Minnesota to Los Angeles, Kendricks hasn't been able to hit the ground running. With injuries at the beginning of the season and losing the green dot to Kenneth Murray, Kendricks has played clean-up for the Chargers. This has worked well for the defense as a unit.

This week against a run-heavy New England Patriots we can expect to see an uptick in tackling opportunities for Kendricks. In Week 12, Bobby Okereke was allowed to run wild against the Patriots, and in the week prior, Zaire Franklin racked up fifteen total tackles. Kendricks should score strongly this week.

Devin Lloyd, Jacksonville Jaguars

I have been somewhat critical of Lloyd in the past but, he has turned a corner this season. With 29 tackles across his last three games, Lloyd is primed to do some damage against the Cincinnati Bengals who will be operating with a stand-in quarterback.

Jake Browning showed little ability to get the ball downfield often and of the 40 passes he has made in Burrow's absence, only four have been over 20 yards. So when Browning isn't handing the ball off to Mixon, he will be putting the ball in Lloyd's area, who will be positioned for most—if not all—of the Jaguars' defensive snaps.

Linebackers to Sit

Drue Tranquill, Kansas City Chiefs

Tranquill has had a steady season after starting the year behind Nick Bolton and Willie Gay. Due to injuries, Tranquill has established himself as a starter in the Chiefs defense. However, this week against the Green Bay Packers will prove tricky.

The Packers run game has been disappointing, and they have shifted to getting the ball to their young wide receiver set. Due to the versatility of receivers such as Christian Watson and Jayden Reed, it will be a lot harder for the Chiefs to make a read on plays thus making Tranquill's job harder. It's a risky play if you decide to start Tranquill this week.

Defensive Linemen to Start

Calijah Kancey, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft looked the part last week against the Indianapolis Colts. Kancey was able to force three tackles and a sack. In Week 13, the Buccaneers host a dismal Carolina Panthers offense that allowed four sacks on quarterback Bryce Young.

The Panthers have allowed 24 sacks on Young in the last five weeks. In each of those matchups, interior defensive linemen have sacked the rookie quarterback, so for Kancey this promises to be a good day out.

Samson Ebukam, Indianapolis Colts

Ebukam had himself a day in Week 12 with four tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is now on course for his best season in the NFL. A visit to Tennessee is a perfect opportunity for Ebukam to continue his form.

After getting three tackles and a sack in Week 5, Ebukam has improved since then and will be up against a rookie in Will Levis who has had it easy the last two weeks. As complacency and tiredness from the offensive line creeps in, Ebukam will score points.

Defensive Linemen to Sit

Brandon Graham, Philadelphia Eagles

Graham has seen almost everything in his career and likes to come up big when needed, but right now he isn't seeing the field anywhere near enough as the Eagles transition a generational shift at the position. The San Francisco 49ers are a tough opponent. With limited time on the field, it's a big risk play compared to Josh Sweat or Haason Reddick.

The Eagles are ahead by two wins in the NFC so we may see Graham rotate in a little more, but the next couple of weeks will be about conservation for Philly. Safer to sit Graham this week.

Defensive Backs to Start

Jessie Bates, Atlanta Falcons

What more do I need to say? This is fast becoming Bates' best season in the NFL, and he capped it off with 12 tackles, a forced fumble, an interception, and a touchdown in Week 12 against the New Orleans Saints.

This week he is up against Tim Boyle and the New York Jets who have yet to gel. After being sacked seven times in Week 12, Boyle will be looking to launch the ball a lot quicker this week. With Bates' ability to move freely around the secondary, he is sure to have another great week of fantasy football production.

Amani Hooker, Tennessee Titans

Up against the Carolina Panthers last week, Hooker posted decent stats with 10 total tackles. In Week 12 Hooker will be up against a traveling Indianapolis Colts without star running back Jonathan Taylor.

Gardner Minshew is confident at the moment, but with the excess workload in the passing game this week, a mistake or two is bound to happen, and Hooker will be waiting to pounce on those mistakes.
