Linebackers to Start

Azeez Al-Shaair, Tennessee Titans

Start your studs! Al-Shaair has been incredible for a Tennessee Titans team that hasn't amounted to much on either side of the ball this season.

With one hundred and forty-five tackles to his name along with two sacks and a fumble recovery, Al-Shaair has proved himself to be a serial playmaker for the Titans. This week against the Houston Texans should prove no different against a recovered C.J. Stroud who has taken a lot of hits by opponents in recent weeks.

As the Texans look to protect Stroud for a potential play-off run, it could mean more running plays for Al-Shaair and more fantasy points for your team.

Frankie Luvu, Carolina Panthers

It seems to me that no one told Frankie Luvu that the Panthers' season is over.  In the past two weeks Luvu has totalled ten tackles in each of his last game and has two sacks in his last three games. Going up against the Jaguars who have struggled on offense, promises to be a good opportunity for Luvu to continue the trend.

With either of Trevor Lawrence or C.J. Beathard at the helm for the Jaguars, or half a game each, as it occurred in Week 16, Luvu should have a nice game to see out the "fantasy" season.

Linebackers to Sit

Lavonte David, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The veteran linebacker has had a couple of big weeks for the Buccaneers, totaling seventeen tackles and 1.5 sacks across the last two games.

This week David faces Derek Carr and the New Orleans Saints who tend to protect Carr fairly well. Carr is a seasoned professional so we can expect he will steer the Saints clear of danger whenever he can.

David won't be in line to have the upside for a sack this week against a tough offensive line and will likely be out of the firing line as Carr likes to launch the ball. Sit David this week.

Defensive Linemen to Start

Jonathon Cooper, Denver Broncos

The Broncos are undergoing a change at quarterback this week with Jarrett Stidham set to start in Week 17. Stidham has showed glimpses of efficiency in the past and had a good pre-season. While Stidham has every opportunity to perform this week, it could mean that their opponent, the Chargers see a lot more time on offense if Stidham doesn't perform well.

With Eason Stick starting for the Chargers again and taking hits from opposition, Cooper should have a nice outing against the inexperienced quarterback.

Josh Allen, Jacksonville Jaguars

Josh Allen picked up the pace again this season and has 13.5 sacks to his name so far. With the Jaguars offense struggling, it could mean that Allen sees the field often in Week 17 and is primed to have a strong performance against the Carolina Panthers and Bryce Young who cannot prevent from being sacked on a frequent basis.

Young has only scored three passing touchdowns since Week 9, including two in Week 16 meaning that Josh Allen couldn't ask for a better opponent this week.

Defensive Linemen to Sit

Khalil Mack, Los Angeles Chargers

This is a tough one, but Mack has been so haphazard this season. In Week 4, Mack produced six sacks and two forced fumbles, but by that point, there were big question marks on his fantasy production. After having a good run of form between Weeks 11 and 13, notching two sacks in each respective game, Mack has regressed in fantasy production yet again.

The Chargers play against the Denver Broncos for the second time in three weeks and in the reverse fixture, Mack struggled to get past the impressive offensive line of the Broncos. It is a big risk play to start Mack in championship week, but if you have nothing to lose, I say have at it!

Defensive Backs to Start

Josh Metellus, Minnesota Vikings

It's about time that I write Josh Metellus into one of my articles. Metellus has been a standout performer for the Vikings defense this season and is one tackle away from making the one-hundred club for the first time in his NFL career. After racking up ten tackles last week against the Lions, Metellus should see a repeat against another division rival, the Green Bay Packers.

It's impossible to know what kind of Jordan Love turns up in Minnesota this week but, Metellus should have a strong performance either way. After averaging 15 or so points in his last four games, it should give some relief in an emotionally charged week.

Jaquan Brisker, Chicago Bears

The second-year safety has put up quality numbers yet again and is also closing in on the hundred club. Currently at ninety-two tackles, Brisker has a favorable match-up against at Atlanta Falcons team who don't know which quarterback to trust. With twenty-nine tackles and a forced fumble in his past three games, Brisker should produce well in Week 17.

Defensive Backs to Sit

Charvarius Ward, San Francisco 49ers

Ward has been a solid player for the 49ers in past seasons and has been able to keep up the trend on occasion in 2023.

Even though Ward was able to produce a monster performance in Week 15 with two interceptions and a touchdown it is unlikely that much production will come his way if Jacoby Brissett is the starting quarterback for the Washington Commanders. Famous for running the ball and throwing short-clean plays, Ward won't necessarily be in line for a heavy workload.
