Linebackers to Start

Jamin Davis, Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders had a clear out at the defensive end position this week after trading both Montez Sweat and Chase Young to the Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers, respectively.  This is a good thing for the linebackers in Washington who are up against Mac Jones and the New England Patriots in Week 9.

With less pressure on the quarterback, this can only mean one thing. Mac Jones has time to hand the ball off to his running backs. With both Rhamondre Stevenson and Ezekiel Elliott still with something to prove, there will be a heavy requirement for the linebackers to be involved, which points to a strong production opportunity for Jamin Davis.

Nakobe Dean, Philadelphia Eagles

Forget everything I said last week, Nakobe Dean is well and truly in the frame to be the green-dot, big time player that we hoped and wanted to see. After playing in fifty snaps last week against the Washington Commanders, Dean made thirteen total tackles. Yes, you read that correctly.

The linebacker corps of Ernest Jones and Christian Rozeboom had a nice day against the Eagles' Week 9 opponent in the Dallas Cowboys in Week 8, so it feels like a natural choice to start with Nakobe Dean, while he is on fire.

Linebackers to Sit

Henry To'o To'o, Houston Texans

The Texans have been very lucky to have a good calibre of linebackers in and around the roster to compensate for both injuries and inconsistent form. To'o To'o has been no exception to this but, over the last two or three weeks, his performance level has dropped and in Week 8 after having a BYE in Week 7, To'o To'o looked off-the-pace and it could be his turn to rotate out.

The Texans are up against a solid Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive line in Week 9 and when pairing that with the return of Denzel Perryman, it could prove to be a quiet day for the ex-Alabama product.

Defensive Linemen to Start

Zach Sieler, Miami Dolphins

Sieler has had a couple of low-production weeks recently and is due a bounceback. Up against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9 may be a perfect chance for redemption. After the Chiefs' surprise loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 8, the Broncos' defensive linemen were instrumental in keeping Mahomes at bay.

Sieler has been on the field for nearly three-quarters of all defensive snaps this season and hit some good stride between Weeks 4-6, picking up thirteen tackles and three sacks in the process. A strong performance by Sieler before the Dolphins have their BYE week in Week 10 is incoming.

D.J. Wonnum, Minnesota Vikings

Wonnum has been relatively consistent this season with the scope to show out for a game with big production. In Week 8, Wonnum was the star of the IDP show when he made three tackles and two sacks against the Green Bay Packers.

Heading into Week 9 against an Atlanta Falcons team who will be rotating out Desmond Ridder could be the perfect opportunity for Wonnum to continue his hot streak. With twenty-eight tackles, four sacks and a forced recovery to his name already this season Wonnum is on track to make this season his strongest yet in the NFL.

Defensive Linemen to Sit

Leonard Williams, Seattle Seahawks

Writing Seattle Seahawks above felt a little strange! As a Seahawks fan I'm very excited to see how this unfolds but, I have reservations on Williams' production in his first game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Ronnie Stanley has returned to training which is a huge boost for the Ravens. Williams will need some time to come to terms with the Seahawks playbook and even though he will likely see some action in Week 9, it is unlikely that the Seahawks will place heavy reliance on him after signing him four days ago.

Defensive Backs to Start

Jordan Fuller, Los Angeles Rams

Jordan Fuller has racked up some steady numbers this season. With fifty tackles, two forced fumbles and an interception, Fuller is well on his way to surpassing the hundred tackles mark. In Week 9 the Los Angeles Rams are up against a Green Bay Packers side that are leaving much to be desired.

With pressure on Jordan Love and potentially any quarterback that steps in to take his place, if the rumors are indeed true, will have a hard day against the Rams secondary. Fuller is flying under the radar slightly making him the perfect candidate to snag another interception and to pick a lot of IDP points this week.

Defensive Backs to Sit

Rasul Douglas, Buffalo Bills

Douglas switched cold Green Bay for even colder Buffalo this week hoping to fill the gap that the Bills had at defensive back after losing Tre'Davious White to an achilles injury in Week 4.

Douglas performed well this season as a Packer and will be hoping to carry that form across but, he will likely have a tough day of it against Joe Burrow and his wide receiver corps who have finally been able to gel with one another. Week 10 against the Broncos, Douglas should be up to speed and will have a strong hold on the Broncos receivers but, he's a sit in Week 9.

Budda Baker, Arizona Cardinals

After being back for two games and performing efficiently in both games with six tackles a piece, Baker is on the sit list for me this week as the Arizona Cardinals will be facing off against the Cleveland Browns.

The Browns quarterback situation is dire. It really gives little hope especially since the Browns just traded their number two target in Donovan Peoples-Jones to the Lions. With Watson, DTR or P.J. Walker potentially at the helm, or a combination of them, Baker will struggle to see the ball come in his direction as the Browns will rely on the run game yet again.
