2023 NFL Mock Draft: April Update

Post-Aaron Rodgers Trade

2023 NFL Mock Draft: April Update

Welcome to the 2023 NFL Mock Draft: April Update...update!

Just days before the 2023 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets agreed to swap first-round picks in the Aaron Rodgers trade!

Since our last update after the NFL Combine, Anthony Richardson has continued to climb draft boards and Odell Beckham Jr. has signed with the Baltimore Ravens, despite Lamar Jackson asking for a trade.

The Dallas Cowboys have released running back Ezekiel Elliott, possibly opening up the door to draft Bijan Robinson. There are even rumors about asking the Tennessee Titans about Derrick Henry! Oh, and they traded for Brandin Cooks!

The New York Giants traded for Darren Waller and signed Parris Campbell. How important is it that they land a wide receiver in the first round now?

The most important question still remains - which quarterback will be selected first overall?

Anthony Richardson showcased his superior athletic ability at the NFL Combine but Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud are the safer, more polished QBs.

Jon's Quick Thoughts (@JPW2542)

  • I think ultimately a team comes up and trades with Arizona, making QBs the first four picks in the draft. Seattle and Detroit are sitting pretty with the ability to take the best defenders that fall into their lap. If Tennessee does not end up trading up, taking Hendon Hooker would not surprise me. They seem desperate to take a QB and maybe believe Hendon Hooker, if not for the injury, would have been in talks to be one of the first few QBs off the board
  • Wide receiver is still a bit of a wild card. Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Zay Flowers have gained a lot of traction to be the top two WRs off the board but I feel team fit will go a long way in the order they are drafted
  • Jahmyr Gibbs to Philly seems like a match made in heaven. His skill set is ideal for their offense and despite signing Rashaad Penny, the fifth-year option on Gibbs is too nice to pass up. He makes for a nice insurance policy on an injury-prone Penny and allows Gibbs time to learn the offense and how to play the position in the NFL
  • Jacksonville, Chicago, and Houston all invest early on the offensive line to protect their franchise quarterback
  • Going back to WR, Quentin Johnson would slide in nicely opposite Justin Jefferson. With the departure of Adam Thielen, there is a hole to be filled in the WR room. Jordan Addison would add some depth to a WR depth chart in Los Angeles (Chargers) that is often times on the injury report more than the field. JSN would be an ideal long-term replacement for Tyler Lockett. Having JSN and D.K. Metcalf together would be a nightmare for the opposition.
  • As a Buffalo Bills fan, Zay Flowers in the slot with Josh Allen slinging him the ball...YES PLEASE!

Keith's Quick Thoughts (@WeTlkFntsySprts)

  • I understand why the Panthers would go all in on a Franchise QB in this draft class, with Young and Stroud at the top of their draft board, but I am not sure that Anthony Richardson is the guy to hang your hat on. I would much rather rely on a year's worth of game film, which saw his stock fall to the end of the first round throughout the season
  • The Falcons/Bears/Eagles picks at 8/9/10 will be very interesting as all three teams can go a handful of ways with these picks. They could have a huge impact on how the middle of the first round plays out
  • It'll be quite hilarious to witness the Green Bay Packers draft QB Jordan Love another WR in the first round (Christian Watson in 2022) after years of ignoring that need for Aaron Rodgers
  • The Detroit Lions can really do themselves a favor on draft night by adding two pieces to their defense in Tyree Wilson and Joey Porter Jr. The same can be said for the Seattle Seahawks, adding Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith on draft night
  • Plenty of mocks have the Los Angeles Chargers adding a pass catcher (WR or TE) but I think it would be a wise decision to focus on shoring up their defense on day one and adding offensive weapons later in the draft
  • As a New York Football Giants fan, it pains me continuously mock Bijan Robinson to the Dallas Cowboys, but it seems inevitable unfortunately
  • It will be interesting to see if Odell Beckham signing with the Baltimore Ravens is enough for them to not draft Quentin Johnston or Jordan Addison, if available
