My Picks

1.11 Colt Emerson, SS, Seattle Mariners

Emerson seriously boosted his stock after the draft. He dominated at the plate in his rookie ball showing. Then he continued his hot streak batting .302 in 16 games at Single-A.

He already shows excellent plate discipline and a consistent swing and hit tool that can anchor your team's batting average. Hopefully, the power turns into 20+ home runs per year. Baseball America ranks him as the Mariners No. 3 prospect behind Cole Young and Harry Ford.

2.11 Arjun Nimmala, SS, Toronto Blue Jays

We're already aiming for upside picks in Round 2. Nimmala shined as a high school senior, and while he still comes with some concerns, his athleticism and range of tools position him as a player who could quickly climb the prospect ranks in 2024.

He has the talent to become a five-category contributor one day. Scouts love his bat speed and project more power building onto his frame. A decent campaign this year will provide a huge boost to his stock.

3.11 Brice Matthews, SS, Houston Astros

Another shortstop? Why not load up at the position with the best athletes? Matthews has plenty of power and speed. Landing with Houston should make dynasty players feel more confident about his outlook.

Matthews already possesses a great plate approach. His contact skills remain the biggest concern. It's an exciting profile for fantasy baseball. Some analysts see him as a top-25 FYPD pick, so grabbing him at No. 35 overall is a nice discount.

4.11 Paulino Santana, OF, Texas Rangers

Now we're getting into the wildcard rounds. Santana has received comparisons to Julio Rodriguez for his work on and off the field. That's enough right there for me to take a flier at pick No. 47 overall.

Everything written about him mentions the potential to become a five-tool player. He already shows promising power and plus speed. We will not see Santana in the big leagues for a while, so it depends on your league's roster settings and your ability to afford a roster spot for him knowing he won't contribute for years.

5.11 George Wolkow, OF, Chicago White Sox

He's 6'7", 240 lbs. with 70-grade power potential. What's not to love? Wolkow just turned 18, so the White Sox still have plenty of time to bring his hit tool along.

There are obvious swing-and-miss concerns - he struck out at a 33% clip in rookie ball. But he moves well for someone his size and could chip in with some steals along with immense home run upside. He's worth a shot this late in your draft. Imaginary Brick Wall mentioned Wolkow as a James Wood-type situation, just throwing that out there.

Value Picks in the 2024 Dynasty Baseball FYPD Mock Draft

1.o2 Wyatt Langford, OF, Texas Rangers

Langford is the player I would take as the top overall pick this year, so getting him at No. 2 is a win in my book. Obviously Yamamoto offers immediate impact, but I'm betting on Langford for a bigger payoff for dynasty leagues.

3.04 Leodalis De Vries, SS, San Diego Padres

The top international signing this year seemed to fall farther than I anticipated in this mock. De Vries wants to model his game after Jose Ramirez. Fantasy players will certainly take that.

The 17-year-old from the Dominican Republic already shows tools far beyond his age. The Padres appear to have success building with last year's top international signing in Ethan Salas, so De Vries will hopefully follow that path. Round 3 feels like a steal for this kid.

3.06 Brayden Taylor, 3B, Tampa Bay Rays

Another solid third-round pick, I typically see Taylor ranked in the top 20 or just outside that for FYPD purposes. He fell a bit here and offered a value pick at No. 28 overall.

Selecting him is a bet on his tools but also on the organization he landed with. The Rays love this type of player. He walked more than he struck out in college. He has power potential and good base running skills even though he might not possess plus speed. Taylor's early returns in 2023 showed a fantasy contributor in multiple categories.
