2024 Fantasy Baseball Week 12 Buy Low Sell High

The 2024 Fantasy Baseball Week 12 Buy Low-Sell High is back to help fantasy managers decide which players to target in trades and which ones to place on the trade block. These players could be considered undervalued or overvalued, and finding the right time to acquire or trade them away is crucial to succeeding in fantasy baseball.

The buy-low candidate is a two-time MLB All-Star and Silver Slugger Award winner. He started the year slowly and struggled throughout March, April, and May. However, as summer heats up, so does his bat. He is turning his season around one game at a time and needs to be considered a trade candidate.

This week's sell-high candidate is a rookie starting pitcher who just made one of the best appearances by any pitcher this season. He tossed 13 strikeouts across six shutout innings while allowing just one hit. His 2024 fantasy baseball trade value is unlikely to get higher than what it is, as he was just a waiver wire add.

Buy Low

Austin Riley, 3B, Atlanta Braves

Austin Riley is finally starting to show some life after struggling throughout the season's first two months.

The two-time MLB All-Star and Silver Slugger winner is looking much better this month. However, his fantasy managers may still be willing to sell him at a lower price as his season-long numbers are still down. Historically, Riley tends to be a much better hitter in the second half of the season. This has been true in four of his six seasons in MLB, including 2019 when he played just 80 games total.

I'm banking on Riley stepping up his play and returning to silver-slugger form down the stretch. Fantasy managers should at least engage in talks with opposing managers about Riley.

Sell High

DJ Herz, SP, Washington Nationals

MLB.com states DJ Herz is the Washington Nationals' No. 12 prospect. He would likely be much higher in other teams' organizations, but the Nationals have a plethora of talented prospects.

Herz launched himself into fantasy relevancy on Saturday, June 15, when he struck out 13 Miami Marlins across six innings. He allowed just one hit in this start, which was just his third career start in Major League Baseball. Unless Herz somehow tops this performance, his 2024 fantasy baseball trade value will never be higher.

I don't think this is a one-hit wonder. Herz has plenty of prospect pedigree, and his success early in his MLB career shows he has the skill to continue pitching well. However, managers should not expect him to strike out 10+ batters and pitch a quality start each game. However, I can almost guarantee that someone is willing to overpay for Herz in a fantasy baseball league.

Start trade discussions with someone in your league who especially likes rookies and rookie pitchers. Chances are, if they've been following Herz's career, they will be happy to acquire him. This is great for the managers who added Herz because you can trade him in for someone likely to outperform him for the rest of the season.
