2024 Fantasy Baseball Week 13 Waiver Wire

2024 Fantasy Baseball Week 13 Waiver Wire

The 2024 Fantasy Baseball Week 13 Waiver Wire contains seven top adds and pickups to claim this week. These players are undervalued and under-rostered, but it's time to add them to your fantasy baseball team.

The top Waiver Wire players this week include four hitters and three pitchers. On the hitting side, we have a super utility player, Jesse Winker, who is back for his third or fourth time, and two young middle infielders starting to turn their season around. For the pitchers, we have a dazzling rookie who came one out away from throwing a complete game shutout. After him is another returning player, Matt Waldron. Lastly, future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw is close to returning for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Boston Celtics have won the NBA Championship, and Jayson Tatum will bring the Larry O'Brien Trophy back to his hometown of St. Louis. As a St. Louis native who watched Tatum play in high school, this is a proud moment for the city and a celebration for his fans here.

The Edmonton Oilers forced Game 7 versus the Florida Panthers. The Oilers were down 3-0 in the series before winning the next three games. Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals takes place on Monday in Florida. I'm rooting for the Panthers in this one because their star forward, Matthew Tkachuk, is also a St. Louis native and son of Keith Tkachuk.

Brendan Donovan, 1B/2B/3B/OF, St. Louis Cardinals

How can you not fall in love with Brendan Donovan? He is a super utility player who gets on base more than most and hardly strikes out.

On the season, he is striking out just 13.5% of the time, which is 10th best in MLB this season. His 6.6% walk rate is down from previous seasons, but he is starting to make up for it.

Since May 12, Donovan's on-base percentage (.378) ranks 22nd amongst qualified players. He also ranks in the top 75 for runs and runs batted in for this span.

More recently, his power is starting to show up as well. Since the start of June, he has two doubles and three home runs with a .463 slugging percentage. His slugging percentage ranks 72nd in this span.

Brendan Donovan could easily be a top-100 batter in most fantasy baseball leagues. However, he has a 41% roster percentage. His recent play puts him as the No.1 2024 Fantasy Baseball Week 13 Waiver Wire pickup.

Jesse Winker, OF, Washington Nationals

Jesse Winker makes the 2024 Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire for the third or fourth time (I forget). I'll tell you what, though. I am sick and tired of putting him on here. He is here to stay until he gets the respect he deserves and his roster percentage goes above 70%.

He's slashing an incredible .266/.380/.414 with a 130 wRC+ and 35 runs and 34 RBI. He has 11 stolen bases as a cherry on top. Among qualified outfielders, he is 11th in batting average, fifth in on-base percentage, 24th in slugging percentage, and 10th in wRC+.

What are we doing here? Get this man on your fantasy baseball team ASAP.

Jonathan Cannon, SP, Chicago White Sox

Despite trading away Dylan Cease in the offseason, the Chicago White Sox rotation is impressive. Garrett Crochet is enjoying a breakout season, and Erick Fedde is holding it down as the No.2 pitcher. Drew Thorpe is showing some promise but the Diamondbacks demolished him in his most recent start. Jonathan Cannon is also in the midst of a breakout, but he is flying under the radar.

Through six appearances and 32.1 innings, Cannon has a 3.34 ERA, 3.17 FIP, and 7.79 strikeouts per nine innings. The rookie is allowing a barrel just 6% of the time, ranking in the 75th percentile. His base-on-ball rate (4.5%) is tied with Paul Skenes for 25th in MLB.

If Cannon recorded more strikeouts, he would be rostered in 100% of leagues, just like Skenes. However, managers should not be deterred by him being a below-average strikeout pitcher. He keeps runs off the board and can pitch deep in games.

Zach Neto, SS, Los Angeles Angels

Zach Neto is inconsistent, and these players can be the hardest to hold onto. It would be so much easier if he played well every day.

He slashes .251/.300/.434 with a 106 wRC+, 28 runs, and 32 RBI on the season. It's not bad, but it's not great either.

Over the last 14 days, however, Neto has posted a 129 wRC+ from three doubles, three home runs, seven runs, and nine RBI.

If Neto could perform like this for extended periods, he would be a must-add in all Fantasy leagues. However, as of now, he is better off as an add in the deeper 12-team leagues.

Zack Gelof, 2B, Oakland Athletics

Zack Gelof may finally be coming around. All it took was him moving to the bottom of the Athletics lineup.

Since May 30, Gelof has been slashing .262/.279/.569 with a 138 wRC+, nine runs, and 11 RBI. He's belted five doubles, five home runs, and stolen four bases in this span.

His on-base percentage is terrible, primarily due to his 36.2% strikeout and 2.9% walk rate. He hasn't figured everything out, but it does look like he's back on track to being the dynamic second baseman everyone thought he would be.

Matt Waldron, SP, San Diego Padres

Matt Waldron might be the only player who has made it on the waiver wire more than Winker. But lo and behold, Waldron is back for the 2024 Fantasy Baseball Week 13 Waiver Wire.

Among qualified pitchers, Waldron ranks 44th in strikeout rate (22%), 17th in HR/9 (0.76), 40th in ERA (3.46), 27th in xERA (3.55), and 24th in FIP (3.45).

What does that tell me? It tells me that the nasty knuckleballer is among the best pitchers in MLB and fantasy baseball. However, his roster percentage still sits at 54%.

I know some have used him as a streamer, but it will get to the point where you drop him and can never get him back. Don't let that happen to you. Pitching is hard to come by this season.

Clayton Kershaw, SP, Los Angeles Dodgers

I'll keep this one short and sweet since we are discussing a future Major League Baseball Hall of Famer.

Clayton Kershaw is making his second rehab start on Tuesday and is expected to throw about 50 pitches. In his first rehab start, he threw 36 pitches across three innings. He struck out five batters and allowed just two hits and one walk.

Currently, Kershaw's roster percentage is 57%, and I don't see why it shouldn't be 100%. He is coming off back-to-back sub-3.00 ERA seasons with at least 9.3 strikeouts per nine innings.

Fantasy managers will have to wait a couple of weeks for his return to the Dodgers, but the wait is well worth it. Kershaw's career achievements include a Triple Crown, one MVP, 3x Cy Youngs, 5x ERA title, and 10x All-Star appearances.
