Xander Schauffele picked up his first major win Sunday at Valhalla. It followed an entertaining and crazy week that included world number one Scottie Scheffler being arrested before his second-round tee time. Scheffler is one of eleven of the top thirty in the world teeing it up this week at Colonial CC. Let's get right into my 2024 PGA DFS Charles Schwab Challenge DraftKings and Betting Preview.

Venue (Colonial Country Club)

Colonial Country Club has hosted tournaments on the PGA Tour dating back to 1946. The event's sponsor has changed many times but Colonial Country Club is the longest-running event on the PGA Tour held at the same venue. This venue is one of the rare layouts that has stood the test of time.

Since the last PGA event held at Colonial, Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner (renowned golf architects) embarked on the most significant renovation project in the venue's history. You can read the article below if you want to know more about the renovation of Colonial.

This venue is a tree-lined shot-makers course with tight fairways, doglegs aplenty, and tiny greens. Colonial is the true definition of a positional course that emphasizes accuracy on approaches and off the tee. The last dozen years of this event have resulted in an average winning score of -13 under par.

Colonial is known for being a less-than-driver course due to the importance of finding the right spot in the fairway. However, recent winners Jason Kokrak and Sam Burns each hit driver off the tee the year they won at a clip of over 72%. The field average for this event is only 58%.

Putting is a huge factor at this venue. Kokrak and Burns might have been more aggressive off the tee en route to their victories but both also entered the event among the best putters on Tour.

Last year's winner Emiliano Grillo won due to gaining 4.7 strokes on approach and an absurd 7.4 strokes on the greens. Overall this venue offers a decent mix of tough holes and birdie opportunities. There are 12 par-4s with Colonial being a par-70 venue. Five of the par-4s play 350-410 yard range with four others between 410-450 yards in length.

The four par-3s all play over 190 yards and play among the toughest on Tour. They hold the lowest combined birdie rate at only 14%. The 247-yard 4th hole has a bogey-or-worse rate of 21%.
