2024 PGA DFS RBC Canadian Open DraftKings and Betting Preview

This week the PGA Tour moves north of the border for the Canadian Golf National Championships. Bringing me to my 2024 PGA DFS RBC Canadian Open DraftKings and Betting Preview.

Following the madness of the Scottie Scheffler arrest at the PGA Championship. The PGA Tour was rocked by the death of member Grayson Murray late last week. Prayers to all of Grayson Murray's friends and family.

This week's PGA Tour event is a "shoot your shot" week. The Canadian Open is being held at a venue the Tour hasn't played since 2019. Meaning there isn't a concrete data advantage for this week's event.  If there was ever a week to trust your gut this would be the week to do so.

Venue (Hamilton Golf and Country Club)

Hamilton Golf and Country Club will host its seventh Canadian Open this week and first since Rory McIlroy's win in 2019. In the time since the last Canadian Open held here the course went thru an extensive renovation by Martin Ebert.

The renovation included tree removal, modernizing the bunkers, a complete rebuild of all the greens and tee boxes. A Par-70 course playing just over 7,000 yards, Hamilton will challenge golfers off the tee with its numerous doglegs and tight fairways. The greens are surrounded with short grass giving the course a links style feel around the greens.

Hamilton Golf and Country Club is the 17th shortest course on Tour. The challenge of this venue is finding the fairways and navigating the significant elevation on tee shots and approaches.

Players ability to score on the difficult Par 3s and twelve Par 4s will ultimately decide this week's winner. The course only has two Par 5s and the Par 3s in the 2019 edition ranked as some of the most difficult holes for the field that week.

Hamilton is a "less than driver" positional golf course that only averaged 283 yards off the tee combined with a 55% fairway accuracy and 59% driver usage in 2019. Only three players in the top-10 gained strokes off the tee with distance, while 14 of the top 16 gained strokes with accuracy.

In 2019, 42% of approaches came from inside 150 yards. When looking back at the leaderboard from 2019 every player who finished in the top-10 were positive for the week in strokes gained approach and putting. This year's event will test players scrambling abilities off tight lies around the greens much more than the 2019 edition.
