2024 PGA DFS RBC Heritage DraftKings and Betting Preview

The PGA Tour moves to Harbour Town following Scottie Scheffler's thrilling Masters victory on Sunday. Before my 2024 PGA DFS RBC Heritage DraftKings and Betting Preview, I wanted to discuss Scheffler's win at Augusta National briefly.

Scottie Scheffler entered The Masters as the prohibitive betting favorite at +450 to win. Despite extreme wind gusts causing difficult conditions Friday and Saturday, Scheffler would win his second green jacket Sunday afternoon.

He opened with a round of 66 Thursday, followed by a gutsy even par round Friday in extreme wind conditions. Scheffler saved his best for the weekend, shooting five under over the two days, highlighted by a 68 on Sunday.

There is no doubt about who the best golfer in the world is at the moment. Scottie Scheffler has joined Tiger Woods as the only players to win multiple major championships while being number one in the OWGR. Since his victory at the 2022 Masters, Scheffler has participated in 45 events on the PGA Tour. In that period, he has won two major championships and seven PGA events. Most impressively, Scheffler has finished within the top-5 in 55% of those events.

If there is one knock on Scheffler, it's that his eight victories have come at four venues: Augusta National, TPC Sawgrass, TPC Phoenix, and Bay Hill. He's never won an event in his first appearance at a new venue. The remaining three major championships this year are all on courses Scheffler has never played. If Scheffler can get over this final hurdle and win one of the remaining majors, the sky's the limit for him.

Venue (Harbour Town)

Harbour Town Golf Links is a par-71 measuring 7,127 yards featuring Bermuda grass greens. A Pete Dye design featuring many doglegs lined with trees that impact both tee shots and approaches. Forcing players to hit less than driver off the tee. Tee shots travel an average of 276.5 yards which ranks as the second lowest driving distance at a venue on tour.

Dye courses are known for featuring small greens and Harbour Town is no exception. The greens at Harbour Town are the second smallest played on tour. Due to the size of the greens players average hitting greens in regulation only 60% of the time. That's nearly five percent lower than the average venue on tour.

The combination of tight, dogleg fairways and small greens is a big reason Harbour Town is the 8th toughest venue for players to gain strokes on approach. This also means 46% of approaches come from distances of 150 yards or further into the greens. The fifth highest rate on tour for approaches from that distance or further.

Harbour Town features only three par-5s and all three are true three shot holes. Only 11% of second shots into par-5s hit the green. Exactly half of the percentage of the tour average of second shots into par-5s that land on the green. The issues players have hitting greens in regulation or par-5s in two put an emphasis on scrambling and strokes gained around the greens.

Scrambling and sand save numbers are easier than the tour average due to increased opportunities from players missing greens. Ability for a player to scramble and save par is imperative to find success at Harbour Town. Firm greens with tricky pin placements will test even the best short game players.
