2024 PGA DFS Travelers Championship DraftKings and Betting Preview

The PGA Tour heads to TPC River Highlands following an epic U.S. Open championship last week. Missing from the field this week is last week’s winner Bryson Dechambeau (he’ll be at the LIV Tour event) and runner-up Rory McIlroy who’s taking a mental break following his collapse over his final four holes Sunday. I’ll attempt to provide my second straight winner and third in the last five event previews in my 2024 PGA DFS Travelers Championship DraftKings and Betting Preview.

Before diving into my course preview and official plays for this week a few thoughts on a memorable U.S. Open last week. Bryson Dechambeau is a rising star in the game of golf. The issue for the PGA Tour is he’s a member of the LIV Tour and plays in only four events each year with the best the PGA Tour has to offer.

Bryson joins elite company with his second U.S. Open title. Joining Tiger, Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Ernie Els, and Brooks Koepka as the only players to win multiple U.S. Open's before for their 30th birthday. More impressively he joined Tiger, Jack Nicklaus, and Bobby Jones as the only players to win multiple U.S. Open titles and a U.S. Amatuer.

Dechambeau’s win Sunday and record in majors since joining the LIV Tour is disproving the notion LIV players will have a harder time competing in major championships due to their events being three rounds.

Bryson has played eight major championships since joining the LIV Tour finishing eighth or better in five of them. Before joining LIV Bryson played in 20 major championships as a member of the PGA Tour with only two top 20 finishes. His win Sunday matched the number of major victories while a member of the PGA Tour in 12 less starts.

Venue (TPC River Highlands)

This is the 72nd year of the Travelers Championship being part of the PGA Tour schedule. TPC River Highland has been its host since 1984. For the second consecutive year this event is deemed a signature event with a 71-player field and a no cut event.

This course is a potential playground for the players who make birdies in bunches on tour. The winning score over the last 14 Travelers Championships has ranged from -12 to -23 under par. The winning score has been -15 or better in eight of those events including Keegan Bradley winning last year at -23 under par. You should target golfers this week who can go low and make birdies in bunches.

This Par 70 course has two par 5s, four par 3s, and twelve par 4s playing 6800 yards in length. Golfers with strong mid-to-short iron play, good strokes gained numbers off the tee, who make plenty of birdies should find success at this venue. I looked at players who excel from 150 yards and within into greens. Nearly 50% of approaches will come from distances that will leave golfers hitting a wedge into the greens. Finally, I looked at players who excel at Par 4 scoring on holes 350 to 450 yards in length due to eight of the par 4s playing this length.

This year's edition should play tougher with "competitive enhancements" of narrowing of fairways, lengthening rough in landing zones, and changing angles on tee shots making it more difficult for players to carry corners to find the fairway.
