Welcome to the Bottom of the Barrel 2023 NFL DFS Week 14 RB edition!
With Week 14 of the NFL season comes some change. A few can be counted on, and the rest are just cloak & dagger tactics. We are now at the point of no return for all the higher-end teams.
Most of those higher percentages come to fruition. While the Wild Card spots can come down to the last week, snap, and game of the season. Oddly all this fantasy stuff we are doing becomes a little easier!
Playoff-caliber teams are the safest bet. Jockeying for a division title is fun! The stars and studs are still out in full force! The middle-rung teams with 5 or 6 wins are still going all out. If Buffalo and Denver can go on a run in the AFC with a little help they might get in! In the NFC it is still wide open. Minnesota, Green Bay, Los Angeles, Seattle, and even Tampa Bay and New Orleans are still clinging to hope. Those eight, or so, teams are always the best to target!
While the bottom-rung teams cannot be trusted. However, they can be a source of cheap yardage and points if we pay attention. That is where Bottom of the Barrel comes in! Let’s continue this ride together! I promise I have your best interest at heart. This article will always be a labor of love!
Enough nonsense. We should talk about the running back position of Week 14!
Bottom of the Barrel 2023 NFL DFS Week 14 RB
Christian McCaffrey 49ers vs. Seahawks(28th)
This should not be up for debate after last week’s contest in Philadelphia. Now, these same 49ers host the floundering Seahawks. This one should get nasty fast. At the same time, CMC sees around 25 total targets and touches. With about 130 total yards and two touchdowns. Seriously, count on it.
Breece Hall Jets vs. Texans(17th)
Breece Hall has become a high-end running back in the NFL. What is stopping him from being mentioned among the best active RBs in the NFL? One, he plays for the Jets. Which was tossed aside before the season started. It has come back around to haunt him. Second, it is his injury history. He is not even 23 years old and has already suffered one major knee injury.
All of this can be quickly suppressed with yardage, catches, and touchdowns. It is a very shallow business but the truth. Breece was unable to practice on Wednesday due to a new ankle injury.
So where does that leave us for Sunday? All up in the air to be honest. If active look for Hall to 12-13 carries, and 50 yards. What I am after is the receptions this week. I have him around 4-5 catches for another 45-50 yards.
Jerome Ford Browns vs. Jaguars(15th)
Last week Ford shared backfield duties with Kareem Hunt. Which is not just going away. We could have a brief respite this week if Hunt is deemed inactive and unable to play. The Jaguars are in the middle of the pack against RBs.
Again, if Trevor Lawrence is not under center on Sunday the Browns could dominate the time of possession. What started as a fun competitive game could swing Cleveland’s way quickly. For that Jerome Ford is the guy I want.
I am expecting 13-14 carries for 50 yards and a touchdown. In addition to 3-4 catches for 20-25 yards.
Alexander Mattison Vikings at Raiders(27th)
Been an odd season for Alexander Mattison. Not to mention all the folks who drafted him in seasonal formats. Once again, this is the beauty of daily fantasy sports formats! If I have said it once I have said it, one million times. We can pick and choose our spots with specific players. Week 14 I am choosing Alex.
You are yelling at your phone or computer screen right now, aren’t you? I am certainly aware Alexander hasn’t gone over the 100-yard mark on the ground this year. He also hasn’t scored a rushing touchdown this year. What if he was able to do both in Week 14? Are you in?
Dameon Pierce Texans at Jets(24th)
Game flow or not it looks as though Dameon Pierce has found his way back into the lead role for Houston. What a time to be back in that role! Against the hapless Jets. It pains me to say that too but what they are doing to Zach Wilson is criminal.
Let’s get back on track with Dameon. We should expect 14-15 carries, 50 yards, and a touchdown. I think it is okay Devin Singletary is still in the rotation. Keep reading and you will see why!
Keaton Mitchell Ravens vs. Rams(7th)
Rarely do I go out on a limb and speak highly of a player. Well, let me rephrase that. Rarely, if ever, do I make wildly improper statements about a player’s ranking or what he will do in the length of his career. I find it to be negligent and not my style. However, I like Keaton Mitchell. This Baltimore Ravens team is already a top-3 team in the NFL. This week against the Rams should be fun!
Mitchell has scored touchdowns in two of his last four games. I do not care that he continues to share touches with Gus Edwards. Gus gained 26 yards on eight carries last week. I have an odd feeling the Ravens lean on Keaton a little more than usual this week.
Devin Singletary Texans at Jets(24th)
Devin has been an outstanding resource for us over the past few weeks. He was a revelation in a way! This entire Texans team has been a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately, rookie WR Tank Dell broke his leg last week. In the meantime, folks are not only scrambling but guessing where those extra snaps and targets will go.
Why can’t it be a running back? I do love Brevin Jordan but that can wait until Thursday when I cover tight ends. Here we are yet again. Using two RBs from the same team without a single hesitation. Double-digit targets and touches are still on tap for Singletary in Week 14.
Roschon Johnson Bears vs. Lions(6th)
I would be lying if I told you that I paid no mind to seasonal ebbs and flows. Scrolling Twitter for five minutes and you will see all you need to see. When we get to the rookie RB it looks like the Bears are still a tad apprehensive to name him the RB1. Which is fine by me. Khalil Herbet and D’Onta Foreman are still around and will command some attention.
Per usual, if Roschon gets rolling and becomes the ‘hot hand’ he can single-handedly fill out our RB spot to perfection. What is fantastic about this match-up is that the Detroit Lions are going to score. Their defense is also going to get scored on. More than likely Roschon Johnson will score at least once. If he finds the endzone twice then it is perfect!
