Bottom of the Barrel 2023 NFL DFS Week 17 QB

Here we are for the Bottom of the Barrel 2023 NFL DFS Week 17 QB edition!

As we start to dig into Week 17 of the NFL season it is an absolute frenzy of information. It has also been the year of the backup quarterback. Some have done well, and others have just faded away. When it comes to daily fantasy sports this late in the year it is a 24-7 type commitment. Every practice report, interview, and player comment could hold some weird secret we could use!

This time of the year is also good for doing nothing. We are currently in that odd time between Christmas and New Year's Day. Do we go to work? Can we sleep past 10 am? If we do stay home, what are we supposed to do? Just a lot of strange questions.

One thing that will always be strange no matter what time of the year it is will be Bottom of the Barrel! Some Playoff seeding is at stake. Draft positioning is on the table. Anything is possible this week.

I have done my best to navigate the quarterback waters for you in Week 17. Let’s get to it! Bottom of the Barrel Week 17 quarterback edition!

Jalen Hurts Eagles vs. Cardinals(27th)

For some odd reason, I feel like Jalen’s confidence level has been down and I do not know why. The Eagles are 11-4 and have already clinched a playoff spot. They beat the Giants in Week 16. Maybe that nasty three-game losing streak is still bugging him. Two of the three losses were bad. Both were of the blow-out variety.

Week 13 San Francisco beat them 42-19. In Week 14 Dallas for them good 33-13. Then in Week 15 Seattle snuck by 20-17. During that three stretch the media was very harsh on the young man. We only see what they want us to see but it hurts. Professional football player or not if you are put down or made fun of it hurts.

Week 17 brings a different atmosphere. The Cardinals are 3-12 with their issues but it is the perfect time for the Eagles to reassert themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the NFC. While this Philly offense still can stall out and make mistakes, the rushing floor and big-play upside Jalen brings to the table is too good to pass up on.

Derek Carr Saints at Buccaneers(26th)

Derek completed 27 of 40 passing attempts for 319 yards and three touchdown passes plus a two-point conversion to kick off Week 16 on Thursday but the Rams and Matthew Stafford still won. It is a very favorable Week 17 road match against Tampa Bay! Should be all sunshine and rainbows for him and Adams, Meyers, and Mayer but he’s been a little too inconsistent to trust.

This is exactly what we want folks to think as we stack up Vegas on Sunday! I have Derek around 24-25 completions, 265-270 passing yards, and two touchdowns!

Geno Smith Seahawks vs. Steelers(7th)

Geno and the Seahawks, in my opinion, are a fun team to watch. I think it’s all based on their head coach Pete Carroll. Seattle beat the Titans last week 20-17. Took a Geno touchdown pass on 3rd and goal with under a minute remaining to beat Tennessee. The Seahawks are now 8-7 and clinging to that last NFC Wild Card spot.

What I’m getting at is the fact that all this pressure can do one of two things. You fold up, crumple, and get into the fetal position. Or you answer the call, do what is asked of you, and handle your business. Last Saturday, December the 23rd the Steelers annihilated the Bengals 34-11. Why does that matter here? If I need to explain that to you after my last few sentences, then I cannot help you.

Competition breeds more competition. The more pressure the better the results. I have Geno around 22-23 completions, 245-250 passing yards, and two touchdowns. Mason Rudolph vs. Geno Smith in Week 17. Who would’ve thought?

Easton Stick Chargers at Broncos(21st)

Come to find out when the coaches let Stick do his thing, he does his thing! Stick connected on 23 of 33 attempts for 215 yards in Week 17. He did not throw a touchdown pass but he scored one touchdown with his legs.

Week 17 brings another favorable matchup in Denver. It looks as though the Broncos have closed up shop for the season. So, there is a shot for Easton to be accountable for several touchdowns!

Gardner Minshew II Colts vs. Raiders(11th)

(FD-$6,700)(DK-5,700)(Y!-$19)

One week Minshew is throwing three touchdowns against the respected Steelers' defense, and the next he's held below 10 fantasy points by the Atlanta Falcons. This week the Colts host the Raiders, and their defense has suddenly been awesome. Their pass rush is phenomenal, and the opposing offensive line cannot stop Maxx Crosby.

Last I checked, in the first sentence of this exact blurb, Gardner does well against good defenses! I cannot explain it and I do not know why but I am here to throw his name in my GPP player pool this week!

Tyrod Taylor Giants vs. Rams(25th)

(FD-$6,700)(DK-$4,800)(Y!-$20)

Taylor took over in place of Tommy DeVito during the Giants loss on Monday to the Eagles. He completed 7 of 16 passes for 133 yards with one touchdown and an interception. Tyrod added 21 yards on two carries. The dual-threat veteran is at it again. Tyrod will get another shot this week, at home, against the Rams. Look, 69 of his 133 passing yards last week came on one throw. Who cares? Folks push these narratives to lessen someone’s achievements. I don’t care if his 133 passing yards came on just one throw. It happened. Tyrod did that.

The Rams aren’t playing around. Suddenly, they are rolling, and the national media keeps dropping little tidbits on why they should be feared. Do you know what I find worse? A veteran quarterback on a losing team with nothing to lose. Tyrod is 34 years old. Not too many more chances for this guy to go all out.
