2022 Dynasty Baseball Player of the Week: Mid-Year Review

Welcome back to another edition of Dynasty Baseball Player of the Week here at F6P! This week we will be looking at another pitcher, one of the most dominant closers in the game today: Josh Hader.

But, before we get started, don’t forget to check out Dave’s Dynasty Baseball Rankings and the On Deck Circle Podcast

I am writing this currently on the Covid-IL; it finally caught me, I am doing fine, and luckily, my Nintendo Switch just got delivered; lots of MLB The Show in the coming days.

Two Truths and a Lie

  • Josh Hader and I have the same ERA
  • Josh Hader and I both have 6'3" on our license
  • Josh Hader and I were drafted by the O's

Well, the only lie there is I was not drafted by the O's. My license says I am 6'3" even though I am 6'2". And just like me, Hader has an ERA of 0.00. This season Hader has been absolutely lights out. He has converted in all 14 of his save opportunities. He has pitched in 13.1 innings while striking our 21.

Basically: if the Brewers are winning in the ninth, then it's lights out, game over.

Most Important Brewer

Is it hyperbolic to say that Hader is the most important Brewer? Probably yes! But hey, Imma do it! Hader is a dynamic arm that can be just that in your fantasy lineup. You can grab him, and he will be elite in multiple categories. He's tops in the league when it comes to XERA, XBA, XSLG, and 98th percentile for whiff rate.

Clearly, Hader is elite, so why are we here? Why are we talking about clearly the best closer in baseball? Well, it is time to recognize just how great Hader is. He can anchor your team's bullpen or even anchor a dynasty pitching staff simply by his effect on ratios. He holds a 14.2 k per 9, and that's good for tops in the league. The guy is just playing dumb good right now.

The season has been so remarkable that there was a segment on MLB network bringing him into the MVP conversation.

Dynasty Verdict

Hader is the guy, and I fully expect him to be the guy for the next five to seven years. Dave has him slated right at 90 in his rankings, and I would say that is about correct. I would not complain if I saw him around 80, but it's really a matter of preference.

Some closers are actually pretty cheap to acquire. Some owners give up on closers just because some do not see the value. However, today I am telling you to please see the value! This is no longer about Hader. Please find hold and saves values in leagues. You can find these guys with crazy K/9 and WHIPs that can help you win or fetch you an asset for your time frame!

I hope everyone enjoys their weekend while I am here playing video games while my dog watches! The next time you see me I will be 29!
