Dynasty Football Debate: D'Andre Swift

First time Alvin Kamara has scored under 10 PPR fantasy points all season and it happens in the fantasy playoffs. Not a fantastic way to start this holiday weekend. You'll bounce back though! Unless your opponent has Puka Nacua in which case...better luck next year. Fortunately, though, dynasty fantasy season never ends, and that means we need to sit back and plot our next moves carefully. For example, what are we doing with our running back rooms? This is the Dynasty Football Debate: D'Andre Swift.

Swift's season is really two different tales at this point. He started off with a bang for 6-to-7 weeks giving us a steady dose of points, and it seemed as though he was seizing control of the running back room in Philadelphia. Since Week 12 though, it has not been a great experience having Swift rostered.

Let's break it down.

Contract

D'Andre Swift finds himself at a crossroads as he approaches the end of his contract. Despite recent lackluster performances, there's a compelling argument to consider him as an intriguing buy for dynasty fantasy football managers.

Swift's current contract, with a modest $1.77 million base salary, sets the stage for potential movement after the 2023 season. The Eagles, known for their reluctance to invest heavily in running backs, might part ways with Swift, opening the door for a new chapter in his career. This impending change can be a golden ticket for dynasty managers eyeing an undervalued asset.

If Swift departs, the Eagles stand to gain a compensatory draft pick in 2025. This extra draft capital becomes an intriguing element for dynasty managers, as it not only signals the Eagles' willingness to let Swift go but also enhances the potential value of any fantasy assets acquired in return.

Escape from Philly: A Boost in Fantasy Production

One of the key reasons Swift's fantasy value could skyrocket post-Eagles is the team's historical stance on running back compensation. By moving to a new team, Swift could become "the guy," enjoying the lion's share of carries and potentially seeing a significant uptick in touchdown opportunities. The departure from Jalen Hurts, notorious for vulturing one-yard touchdowns, would undoubtedly enhance Swift's scoring potential.

The Dynasty Investment: A Calculated Gamble

Investing in Swift for dynasty fantasy football doesn't necessarily demand a first-round pick. The uncertainty surrounding his future in Philadelphia might keep the acquisition cost reasonable, potentially making him a steal for savvy dynasty managers. Even a late first-round pick seems a small price to pay for a player with the potential to anchor a backfield and emerge as a fantasy stud in the right situation.

Performance Analysis: Breaking Down the Numbers

Touchdown Equity Dilemma

Swift's current fantasy production, marred by a touchdown equity tug-of-war with Jalen Hurts, doesn't reflect his true potential. Despite ranking as RB23 in fantasy points per game, Swift's ability to find the end zone consistently has been hampered by the Eagles' offensive dynamics.

Pass Game Usage Decline

In recent games, Swift's involvement in the passing game has dwindled, with seven of the last nine outings yielding three or fewer targets. However, a change of scenery could revitalize his pass-catching prowess, especially if he lands in an offensive system that values running backs in the passing game.

Statistical Snapshot: Unearthing Swift's Contributions

Versatile Yardage Accumulation

Swift's season stats showcase his versatility, accumulating 896 rushing yards on 196 carries, averaging a respectable 4.6 yards per attempt. His contributions extend beyond rushing, with 38 receptions on 48 targets for 209 yards, highlighting his capability as a dual-threat back.

Red Zone Presence

Swift's significance in the red zone cannot be overlooked. Carrying the ball 30 times in the red zone accounts for 33.0% of his team's attempts, showcasing his importance in critical scoring situations. A change of scenery could amplify his red zone opportunities, translating into increased fantasy value.

Consistent Offensive Involvement

Despite the Eagles favoring a balanced offensive approach, Swift has managed to stay involved. Handling 45.8% of his team's rushing attempts and contributing to 12.8% of the team's touchdowns, he remains a crucial cog in the Eagles' offensive machinery.

Conclusion: Swift's Dynasty Stock on the Rise

The impending contract expiration, potential compensatory picks, and the promise of a new team all contribute to the allure of investing in this talented running back. As dynasty managers weigh their options, Swift stands out as a calculated gamble with the potential to deliver substantial returns.
