Dynasty Football Debate: Rhamondre Stevenson

Dynasty Football Debate: Rhamondre Stevenson

Well, Geno Smith just put up 37 points on my bench in a 2QB dynasty league. How did your NFL Week 13 start? I am glad that D.K. Metcalf is making my previous Dynasty Debate article look good, though.

At least I have that, and at least we get to talk about a running back you can probably acquire to make a fantasy playoff run. This is the Dynasty Football Debate: Rhamondre Stevenson.

Now, I know what you're saying, "Rhamondre has been disappointing this year." "I don't want any part of that disaster of an offense in New England." I hear you, BUT in each of his last two games, Rhamondre has carried the ball 20+ times and been targeted five times in the receiving game. Not only that but his rest of season matchups are fantastic.

Recent Surge and Usage Patterns

Over the past two weeks, Stevenson's workload has seen a significant uptick. Carrying the ball over 20 times and becoming a more prevalent target in the passing game, Stevenson is displaying the kind of versatility and usage that we as fantasy managers look for during the critical stretch of the season.

Despite the changing quarterback situation in New England, Stevenson's involvement in the passing game has remained remarkably consistent. Even with the transition from Mac Jones to Bailey Zappe or potentially Malik Cunningham, the 25-year-old running back has demonstrated an ability to maintain a steady target share.

Drawing upon the 2022 season when Zappe took over for Mac Jones, Stevenson's target average remained an impressive five per game. So, I think we can expect that number to stay consistent even with Zappe moving forward.

Remaining Schedule and Favorable Matchups

Rhamondre's upcoming opponents – Los Angeles Chargers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Kansas City Chiefs (the toughest matchup), Denver Broncos, and the Buffalo Bills – collectively present a feast-worthy prospect for running back production.

Analyzing these matchups reveals a series of games where opposing defenses have struggled against the run, setting the stage for Stevenson to capitalize on both rushing and receiving opportunities. If Rhamondre is going to see 15+ carries like he has the last two weeks then this is what we love to see. And even if the Patriots are trailing it becomes pass-catching time.

Age, Value, and Future Outlook

At 25 years old, Stevenson is by no means approaching the twilight of his career. Not only is he still young enough to provide some long-term value, but he has also proven to be a valuable fantasy asset in the past.

There is a chance this New England offense gets a complete facelift for 2024 as well. With rumors of a new QB and coaching staff on the way it presents an intriguing future for Rhamondre and the Patriots' offense.

Capitalizing on Disappointment: Trade Window Open

In the world of dynasty fantasy football, timing is everything. The disappointment surrounding Rhamondre Stevenson's early-season struggles may have created a market perception that does not accurately reflect his current and future potential.

Dynasty managers who drafted Stevenson with high expectations, only to find themselves out of playoff contention, could be seeking to pivot toward accumulating draft capital for future seasons. This presents an ideal scenario for contending teams to exploit the market inefficiency.

Now, you may have to pay something like a 2024 late first-round pick (1.11-1.12), or a combination of 2024 mid-second and third-round picks to acquire Stevenson right now, but as a contending team you should be pushing everything towards that ultimate goal of winning the title. Those picks are a small price to pay if you ask me, especially considering Rhamondre still has a few solid years left after 2023.

Conclusion: Seizing the Opportunity

Dynasty championship windows are narrow, and they close fast. Push the chips in now, and start acquiring pieces to help you seize the ultimate glory of a fantasy championship.

The disappointment of Stevenson's early-season struggles may obscure his true value, making now the opportune moment to engage in trade discussions and potentially secure the services of a player poised to become a fantasy football playoff hero.
