Miguel Andujar 2019 Injury: Fantasy Baseball Impact

on

What many fantasy baseball owners probably assumed was a bad April Fools’ Day joke, turned out to be the worst news possible.

Miguel Andujar is out for a few weeks, with the possibility of undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder. His season with the New York Yankees would be over.

This news comes on the same day as Giancarlo Stanton being sent to the injured list with a biceps strain.

It has been a tough start to the season for the New York Yankees, who lost two of three at home to the Baltimore Orioles.

Miguel Andujar finished second in American League Rookie of the Year voting last season, losing to Babe Ruth Shohei Ohtani.

Andujar hit 27 home runs, racked up 92 RBI and scored 83 runs in 606 plate appearances in 2018. He put up those numbers while hitting .297 with a .361 wOBA and 129 wRC+.

According to NFBC 12 team ADP from March, Miguel Andujar had an average draft position of 82.21. That would make him the 10th 3B drafted.

FantasyPros ECR ranked him 12th at 3b and ranked in the top 100 overall.

It goes without saying, it’s never good to lose a top 100 player!

Waiver Wire Adds

DJ LeMahieu, New York Yankees (53% owned Yahoo)

That DJ LeMahieu signing is looking even better for the New York Yankees now. He is the top add for Andujar owners, or anybody looking to add a bat to their roster. LeMahieu is a .265 hitter (.315 wOBA) away from Coors Field over the last two years, compared to .322 (.349) in Colorado. Thankfully, Yankee Stadium is also a hitter-friendly park.

Ryan McMahon, Colorado Rockies (49%)

The Colorado Rockies just placed Daniel Murphy on the injured list and that could mean more playing time for Ryan McMahon. Keep an eye on that situation.

Maikel Franco, Philadelphia Phillies (46%)

Franco has hit two 3-run home runs already and has tallied seven RBI in the Phillies first three games. You want to add as many players from that lineup as possible!

Ryan Healy, Seattle Mariners (36%)

Healy is off to a hot start with six doubles and two home runs. He has scored eight runs and drove in six. Third base is all his until Kyle Seager returns.

Willians Astudillo, Minnesota Twins (22%)

Another option, assuming you already have some 3B depth on your team, is to add the one and only Willians Astudillo! The Minnesota Twins can not afford to play him just once every three games and with Miguel Sano out, there are plenty of opportunities to get him in the lineup multiple times a week. Astudillo hit two doubles, walked and drove in two runs and scored twice in his only start of the season.

Yandy Diaz, Tampa Bay Rays (11%)

One more possibility for Andujar owners could be the Tampa Bay Rays Yandy Diaz. He has a hit in all five games this year and has scored four runs.

Andujar owners received some bad news, but thankfully it is very early in the season and that there are still a bunch of potential replacement options that could pan out.
