Fantasy Baseball Pitching Planner

Week 3 (4/15-4/21)

by Taylor Cochran

Looking for assistance with your Fantasy Baseball lineup decisions this week? You've come to the right place. Welcome to the Fantasy Baseball Pitching Planner, your go-to resource for dominating the pitching categories in your league.

Our team has meticulously evaluated the probable pitching rotations for the upcoming week, taking into account the crucial statistics that impact both individual pitchers and the teams they'll be facing.

To take it a step further we look at splits by comparing the pitching home/away stats to the team they are facing split stats. Those team's batting splits are broken down into Home vs LHP, Home vs RHP, Away vs LHP, or Away vs RHP, as we try to give you the most accurate projection for the upcoming slate of games.

Each pitching matchup is then graded, indicating which pitchers are primed for success and which might be better left on your bench.

Consider this your playbook for Fantasy Baseball success. With the Fantasy Baseball Pitching Planner as your guide, you'll have the insight to bolster your lineup weekly.

Stay tuned as we expand our coverage throughout the season, spotlighting notable two-start pitchers as the weeks progress. While early-season rotations and schedules may be uncertain, we're committed to keeping you informed every step of the way.

Be sure to check out our Hitting Planner for help making those tough lineup decisions each week.

Tyler Glasnow, Dodgers (WSH, NYM)

If this guy can stay healthy... watch out. Glasnow is coming off a dominant 14-strikeout performance and I wouldn't be surprised if he racked up 10 more against the Nationals. He is one of the most talented pitchers in the MLB and gets two solid matchups this week. The Nationals have scored the least amount of runs in the NL East, and the Mets have also struggled to start the season. Glasnow has always been a better pitcher at home -- expect two great starts this week.

George Kirby, Mariners (CIN, @COL)

What has happened to George Kirby? The King of Control has suddenly fallen off the rails, struggling to the tune of an 8.16 ERA and .323 OBA. I think he gets it back on track soon, but it might not be this week. The Reds offense looks phenomenal, led by youngsters Elly De La Cruz and Spencer Steer. Then Kirby goes to Colorado where the ball has been flying lately. I think Kirby is too risky this week. He clearly needs to tune things up before you put him back in your starting lineup. Despite the two-start week, he's a sit for me.

Aaron Nola, Phillies (COL, CHW)

After a horrific first start of the season against the Braves, Nola has had back-to-back solid starts. This week, Nola gets two subpar offenses at home. The righty has a career 3.25 ERA in Philly compared to his lackluster 4.21 ERA on the road. Expect two good starts against the 2-12 White Sox and 4-11 Rockies. He's currently my favorite pitcher of the week.

Chris Bassitt, Blue Jays (NYY, @SD)

I had high expectations for Bassitt coming off a superb 16-win season in 2023. This year has been much different. The 35-year-old righty has a 5.06 ERA and 1.81 WHIP in three starts this season. He's given up 20 hits and issued 9 walks in just 16 innings so far. I'm worried about his matchups against the Yankees and Padres this week. Juan Soto has seemed to find his groove, and a slimmed down Giancarlo Stanton is starting to look more like his 2017 self to start the year. The Padres are nothing to sneeze at either. I think it's a dangerous week for Bassitt, and I'll be leaving him out of the starting lineup.

Aaron Civale, Rays (LAA, @NYY)

I love what the Rays have done with Civale. He has looked phenomenal since joining Tampa Bay, and 2024 hasn't been different. So far this year, the righty has a 2.12 ERA and 0.94 WHIP with 18 k's in 17 innings. His first matchup against the Angels is a great one at home. Even though the second matchup isn't ideal on the road in New York, I still think Civale should be started in all leagues. He's pitching at a superb level and has the chance to earn a quality start any time he takes the mound.

Jordan Hicks, Giants (@MIA, ARI)

Listen, I think Jordan Hicks is a sneaky NL CY Young pick. I'm not saying go out there and bet it, but at +6600 odds, it might be worth a little sprinkle. His first matchup of the week should produce double digits. The 27-year-old has a beautiful 2-0 record with a 1.00 ERA and 0.83 WHIP so far this season. I love what the Giants did to him, and I think he's become a must-start, especially with two games this week.
