Fantasy Basketball Week 9 Preview

Week 8 in the fantasy NBA realm saw a variety of players go down with injuries. Patrick Beverley fractured his hand and the prognosis looks like a 4-6 week timeline. The Rockets are injury plagued of late with Jeremy Lin and James Harden also missing time. The logical adds here are Aaron Brooks and Francisco Garcia in deeper formats. The inconsistency of Beverley prior to going down make unanimous that he can be dropped safely until further notice.

The Lost Angeles Lakers lost Kobe Bryant for 6 weeks due to a fractured in the knee. Prior to this Kobe was playing point guard for an injury depleted team. A nice stash player is Jordan Farmar who looks to be the closest Laker point guard to return from injury. Steve Blake and Steve Nash (if he can stay on the floor) look to be mid January target dates. Currently Xavier Henry is the starting point guard for the Lakers and the ball is moving through Pau Gasol in the half court set. This is a situation worth monitoring.

The Brooklyn Nets suffered a major blow to their season with the season ending injury to Brook Lopez. This will open up minutes in the front court and the main benefactor will be Andray Blatche. Blatche should not be on the wire in any leagues, as he should be a great source of rebounds, blocks and points going forward.

Below I will look at the upcoming week 9 schedule as well as some players that are worth starting or sitting in the upcoming week. Keep in mind all assumptions are based on a 14 team roto league.

Start ‘Em/ Sit ‘Em
Aaron Brooks (PG/SG – HOU) – The injury depleted Rockets play five times this week. Brooks may be the only point guard that is able to play this week for Houston. Look for solid assist numbers with decent scoring averages and three pointers. He is worth an add and a start for all point guard and assist needy managers.

Khris Middelton (SF/PF- MIL) – Khris is playing a ton of minutes over his last seven days. Over that span he is averaging 20 point, 7 rebounds and 2.3 three pointers on 46 minutes per game. Mind you two of the games were overtime games. He is worth a start this week as the Bucks regime may have found something here.

Xavier Henry (SG/SF -LAL) – Henry is running the point guard for the Lakers and by virtue of injury he will be playing a lot of minutes. In his first start at point Henry logged 21/4/4 in over 40 minutes of game action. Owners could do a lot worse on the wire.

Mirza Teletovic (SF/PF – BKN) – Brook Lopez is out for the year with a broken foot. This is going to open up minutes for the three point shooting big. In 32 minutes in his last game he dropped 18 points and 6 three pointers. he is worth a speculative add especially for owners in seek of the sneaky three ball. Andray Blatche is also a must own for the remainder of the season.

Marco Belinelli (SG/SF – SAN) – Danny Green has been a roller coaster all year and it seems the more consistent of the two has been Marco. For this Pop has been rewarding the playing time and Marco has responded positively. Over his last seven days he is averaging 15 points and 3 threes in just over 28 minutes a game.

Marvin Williams (SF/PF – UTAH) – Williams has been wildly inconsistent since his return from injury this week. His last three games he has shot under .305 from the field. The Jazz are not going anywhere this season so look for the team to run their core group of Enes Kanter, Derrick Favors, Trey Burke and Gordon Hayward more towards the latter end of the year. Williams should be benched and.or dropped this week.
