The Fantasy Six Pack Hour: 2018 Fantasy Football Draft Rankings

The Fantasy Six Pack Hour is back with another show to get you ready for the season. This week we will be discussing some 2018 Fantasy Football Draft Rankings.

To help us with that we are excited to have one of the new Fantasy writers from The Athletic, 2017 Fantasy Pros No. 1 Ranker and advocate for #BanKickers, Jake Ciely.

You can find him on Twitter as well by going to @allinkid.

Rankings Process

We wanted Jake a share a little about his process for completing his rankings. To do so we asked him the following:

  • How much work and time goes into your rankings?
  • Do you follow your rankings 100% when drafting or will you take a guy you have ranked lower in some spots?
  • What is your thought process when you rank players you don’t like (that would go on your do not draft list for example). You obviously have to still rank them. Do they get dropped really far down rankings compared to ADP/ECR or are there ranked conservatively?
  • How, if at all, do you account for players who are working under a new coaching staff? (i.e., Pittsburgh players who no longer have Todd Haley calling the offense, etc.)
  • What are your thoughts on handcuffs, and will you rank them similarly to teams with RB-by-Committee backfields?
  • How do you approach ranking RB/WR with new QB’s in the offense? Will you always drop players who are working with rookies as opposed to veterans, or does it depend on the veteran (Keenum in DEN vs. Darnold potentially taking over for McCown)

Late-Round Targets

We asked Jake to give us his favorite late round targets for the running back and wide receiver position.

We used the current ADP from FantasyPros and asked for a running back past 40 and wide receiver past 50.

Explain Yourself

We make Jake explain himself when it comes to the rankings of some players in his rankings.

Preseason Week 2

A.J. and I quickly cover the hot topics from Week 2 in the preseason. This includes a new receiver emerging in Tennessee. Patrick Mahomes throwing 70 yards. Also what is going to happen with the Jets and Bills quarterback situation.
