Kyle Bradish suffers Right UCL Sprain set to open season on IL

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Kyle Bradish is set to open the season on the injured list after suffering a sprained UCL in his right arm.

Bradish experienced irritation in his throwing elbow after starting his throwing program in January, general manager Mike Elias said.  The 27-year-old was treated with a PRP injection and the early returns are reported to be encouraging.

Bradish finished last season with a 12-7 record and a 2.83 ERA with 168 strikeouts over 30 starts.

Bradish had been a popular pick early in draft season coming off the board in round 7/8 frequently.

Look for his rotation spot along, with the fifth rotation spot to become a spring competition between Cole Irvin, Cade Povich, Chayce Mcdermott, and Tyler Wells. Povich or McDermott would have immediate deep-league appeal as part of the rotation.

Orioles starter John Means is also unlikely to be a part of the Opening Day rotation, as the lefty is still dealing with a left elbow injury that kept him out of the American League Division Series in October. Means underwent Tommy John surgery in 2022.

“At this point, I kind of understand to follow the process and do the best I can every day and try to be as prepared as I can,” Means said on Friday.

Means completed his first bullpen session around Jan. 31. The lefty has pitched just 31 2/3 MLB innings over the past two seasons. He pitched 45 1/3 innings last season between four major league starts and six minor league appearances.

Both Bradish and Means remain confident that they can contribute this season.

"I feel confident that I will be able to pitch and help this team out this year," said Bradish.
