Mariners Trade Edwin Encarnacion to Yankees

The Seattle Mariners have traded Edwin Encarnacion to he New York Yankees.

The Mariners continue to rebuild their franchise, acquiring Encarnacion this offseason in a deal with the Cleveland Indians for Carlos Santana.

Just a week or so ago, Seattle traded Jay Bruce to the Philadelphia Phillies and in the offseason, they dealt Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz to the New York Mets.

Domingo Santana and Omar Narvaez were also acquired in a trades this offseason.

I spent this weekend at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, watching Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge rehab. They both struck out and often took some ugly swings (they missed).

Pretty soon though, the New York Yankees lineup will look something like this:

  1. DJ LeMahieu
  2. Aaron Judge
  3. Giancarlo Stanton
  4. Gary Sanchez
  5. Luke Voit
  6. Aaron Hicks
  7. Edwin Encarnacion
  8. Didi Gregorius
  9. Gleyber Torres

Encarnacion continues to crush baseballs (21 HRs), despite being 36-years-old. He now moves to a much more hitter-friendly park and division, in a much better lineup. This is a great thing for Fantasy Baseball owners.

However, you can probably expect an extra day off each week for the rotating DH spot to allow Gary Sanchez a day off from behind the plate but keep his bat in the lineup. Sometimes it will be Voit who sits, other day sit will be Encarnacion. If it means they are all healthy in September during the Fantasy Baseball Playoffs, so be it!

With Encarnacion gone, Daniel Vogelbach should continue to play every day at 1B/DH from here on out and is just 55% owned in Yahoo leagues! He has hit 17 home runs this year and is swinging a hot bat in the last two weeks.

This move should open up more at bats for Ryon Healy as well, who is currently on the injured list.

Despite all of the injuries the Yankees have dealt with this season, they are tied for first place in the American League East with the Tampa Bay Rays.

We Want a Pitcher

If I had to guess, I would say Brian Cashman is not done yet as he will need to add another starting pitcher to their rotation.

Since returning from injury, James Paxton has made three starts for a combined 11.1 innings pitched.

Domingo German allowed 14 earned runs in his last three starts, thanks to seven home runs, before landing on the injured list. At 70 innings pitched already, he is going to have to skip some starts as he has not thrown 100+ innings since 2014 in A-Ball.

Veterans Masahiro Tanaka, J.A. Happ and CC Sabathia are going to have steady the ship while the other guys figure it out.
