MLB DFS 4-12-22 Stacks

Welcome to the MLB DFS 4-12-22 Stacks post!

Tuesday's main slate features nine of the 15 scheduled games. We have a couple of new series starting as well giving us a chance to look at teams facing new pitching staffs.

The Los Angeles Dodgers head to Minnesota to take on the Twins in what will be just a two-game series.

The Kansas City Royals head out on the road to take on the St. Louis Cardinals, also a quick two-game series. The Cardinals game against the Pittsburgh Pirates was postponed yesterday.

In yet the start of another two-game set, the Arizona Diamondbacks host the Houston Astros.

The main slate will also feature some games that started their series with day games on Monday - Brewers at Orioles and Rockies at Rangers.

Yu Darvish is the only "ace" on the mound tomorrow as he leads the San Diego Padres on the road against the San Francisco Giants.

New York Yankees vs Yusei Kikuchi

Aaron Judge
Giancarlo Stanton

Alek Manoah and the Blue Jays bullpen shut out the Yankees yesterday. Yusei Kikuchi is not Alek Manoah.

Kikuchi allowed 20% of fly balls hit last year to go for home runs. Only Patrick Corbin allowed a higher rate of fly balls to leave the ballpark among starting pitchers with 150 innings pitched last year.

Right-handed hitters faired very well against Yusei Kikuchi in 2021 - .324 BABIP, .357 wOBA, .479 SLG. According to his Baseball Savant page, Kikuchi's 91.9 avg EV was in the bottom 1%!

Both Aaron Judge and Joey Gallo have homered off Kikuchi in previous matchups.

As should always be the case, if you are stacking against the Toronto Blue Jays, you might as well run it back with one or two of their bats as well!

Andrew McCutchen
Willy Adames

The Brewers were shut out at Camden Yards yesterday by Bruce Zimmermann, Mike Baumann and the bullpen. That's not supposed to happen.

Andrew McCutchen and Willy Adames are the only Brewers with multiple extra-base hits this season. It has been a very slow start to the season for the Brew Crew, but tonight could be their first breakout game of the season!

Colorado Rockies at Texas Rangers Game Stack

Chad Kuhl vs Martin Perez

Chad Kuhl had a sub 2.50 ERA at PNC Park as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates last year. Unfortunately, the road was not kind to him, pitching to a 7.32 ERA! These home/away splits have been going on for two years now.

Since the 2020 season, hitters own a .405 wOBA in Kuhl's road starts. That's the fourth-worst among pitchers who have faced at least 175 batters, on the road. Kuhl has allowed 2.3 home runs per nine innings during that stretch of road starts, good (bad) for the bottom 10.

Both righties and lefties tee off on Kuhl, but lefties even more so. Brad Miller, Corey Seager, Nate Lowe, Kole Calhoun, Willie Calhoun - fit some of these guys into your lineups!

Martin Perez was just awful last year and got torched by right-hand hitting. I hate to bring up Patrick Corbin again but only Corbin and J.A. Happ had a worse wOBA against (.374) vs righty bats, among pitchers with 400+ RHH batters faced. He also owned one of the lowest K-BB% among that same group of pitchers.

Perez only allowed 35.5% fly balls but had a 17.7% HR/FB rate. If guys like Kris Bryant, C.J. Cron, Connor Joe or Randal Grichuk see a few pitches up in the strike zone, they could really do some damage.
