NBA DFS 1-12-23 Yahoo Breakdown

by Cody Cook

Cody Cook, aka @DProdiogy, here breaking down the NBA DFS 1-12-23 Yahoo Breakdown of the six-game NBA slate!

Tonight kicks off with the Oklahoma City Thunder traveling to the city of brotherly love playing the Philadelphia 76ers who are 9-point favorites. The over/under is set at 232 points which should mean it will be a high-scoring affair.

We have a great matchup between two star-studded teams who are the Brooklyn Nets at the Boston Celtics who are 3-point favorites. The over/under is low coming in at 227 points.

Our third game is the Milwaukee Bucks facing off against an injury-riddled Miami Heat who are surprising two-and-a-half point favorites. The over/under is coming in super low at 217 points.

Toronto faces the Charlotte Hornets and looking for a revenge win after losing to them on January 10th with the final score of 120 to 132. The Raptors are a 7-and-half-point favorite with an over/under of 231.

Another star-studded matchup features stars in an MVP race with the Dallas Mavericks heading to the big city of Los Angeles to play the Lakers

The final game of the night is the Cleveland Cavaliers coming in as a small favorite at 3 points while playing the Portland Trail Blazers. The over/under is set at 220.

Our injury report has Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, Tyler Herro, and Khris Middleton listed as out. With those three players highlighted players as non-options, let's look at the rest of the slate.

NBA DFS 1-12-23 Yahoo Breakdown

Point Guard -Kyrie Irving, $36, Brooklyn Nets

Kyrie Irving in this matchup speaks for itself. First, we have Kyrie Irving playing in Boston where the revenge narrative will likely see him play lights out. Secondly, we have no Kevin Durant in this matchup and Kyrie Irving will have to step up massively. I am taking the discounted price tag for a star in Brooklyn to fill into our lineups nicely especially with the bump up in usage rates.

Other Options- Luka Doncic and Dennis Schroder

Shooting Guard -Royce O'Neale, $16, Brooklyn Nets

This may not be the sexiest of all plays but the upside will be there for him to accrue fantasy points. Royce O'Neale will see an additional usage bump with the injuries on the Brooklyn Nets. He can rack up assists, points, blocks, and rebounds all night in this matchup. The price tag is too cheap for what he can do all over the floor. What a nice surprise Royce O'Neale has been this season!

Other Options- Malcolm Brogdon and Donovan Mitchell

Small Forward -Max Strus, $15, Miami Heat

The journeyman in Max Strus has stepped up this season. He came in strong for the Miami Heat who has faced nonstop injuries. Max Strus' last game saw over 40 minutes and I felt like he never left the court. The injuries on this team are expected to remain the same, resulting in many players being out once again. I still like Max Strus starting either way. We just need the three-point shot to hit and we will exceed value!

Other Options- Jaylen Brown and Josh Hart

Power Forward -Jayson Tatum, $48, Boston Celtics

My favorite star of the slate is going to be Jayson Tatum who I think is going to be in a battle with the Brooklyn Nets. The matchup is heavily in his favor as teams can score easily against the Brooklyn Nets. Tatum will have a larger role if Marcus Smart does not play. Jayson Tatum should have no issues driving to the paint and wanting to outscore Kyrie Irving. This Boston big man is my pick for a mini stack featuring this game. I am expecting a 60-point fantasy outing!

Other Options- Scottie Barnes and Jimmy Butler

Center -Thomas Bryant, $23, Los Angeles Lakers

There's a ton of potential for rebounds and points in Thomas Bryant's matchup. The defense of Christian Wood and Dwight Powell doesn't scare me at all. Anthony Davis is still out and Thomas Bryant has stepped up to fill the big shoes he is trying to fill. Since December 30th, Thomas Bryant has averaged over 30 fantasy points each game along with playing consistently 30 minutes. Thomas Bryant can do wonders for us on the board!

Other Options- Joel Embiid and Mason Plumlee
