NBA DFS Yahoo Breakdown

Cody Cook, aka @DProdiogy, here breaking down the NBA DFS 1-5-23 Yahoo Breakdown of the four-game NBA slate!

It is the first slate of the New Year of 2023 and I am excited about it. Let's start it off with a bang!

Tonight starts off with the Memphis Grizzles which are 6-point favorites. I am expecting them to stomp on the Orlando Magic. The over/under looks to be low compared to other games coming in at 226.5 points.

The Boston Celtics are headed to Dallas after a horrible loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Who would've thought the Boston Celtics would've lost 133 to 150 on Tuesday? The Boston Celtics are 2-point favorites with an over/under of 229.5 points. Closing with one of the night games, the Utah Jazz were so close to winning on a buzzer-beater last game against the Sacramento Kings! Utah will look to redeem themselves as 5-point favorites against the Houston Rockets. The over/under is the highest on the slate, set at 232.5 points.

For the late-night hammer game, we have a battle in Denver with the Los Angeles Clippers coming to town. The over/under is set at the lowest for the night at 225.5 points.

Our injury report has Collin Sexton, Nicolas Batum, and Dorian Finney-Smith listed as out. With those three players highlighted players as non-options, let's look at the rest of the slate.

NBA DFS 1-5-23 Yahoo Breakdown

Point Guard - Mike Conley, $19, Utah Jazz

We have so many high-priced options up top, but I am kicking off with a value pick that rose to the occasion last game. Mike Conley has excelled when he has been the lone point guard. The matchup doesn't scare me at all, especially with the over/under set high for this slate. I am expecting Mike Conley to lead the offensive scheme in this game to prove a point coming off a devastating loss. The veteran can still ball out!

Other Options- Luka Doncic and Ja Morant

Shooting Guard - Desmond Bane, $23, Memphis Grizzles

This position is interesting to me with the lack of options we have based on questionable injuries. The one price tag that stands out to me is Desmond Bane's in the middle tier range. He has been lights out the past two games seeing over 30 fantasy points. I am expecting him to boom once again especially facing off against the Orlando Magic. The defense will focus on Ja Morant and leave Desmond Bane to splash!

Other Options-Jordan Clarkson and Jalen Green

Small Forward -Lauri Markkanen, $32, Utah Jazz

I am focusing on another standout option on the Utah Jazz that is wanting vengeance after his shot was called off at the buzzer last game. I am surprised by how well Lauri Markkanen has looked this season and his big-man role has exceeded expectations. The mini stack we are forming on this slate on this team is looking great price-wise. I am loving Lauri Markkanen's price tag as a stud who is at a discounted price with an elite matchup.

Other Options- Bruce Brown and Paolo Banchero

Power Forward - Grant Williams, $10, Boston Celtics

I know this may come as a surprise that I am loading up on Grant Williams but I think he may be someone that can pay off his price tag nicely. Other than the last game which was nothing short of a miracle for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Grant Williams saw over 20 minutes on a consistent basis. I am expecting Grant Williams to be out there for his defensive style. Give me at least 15 fantasy points to hit value here! I mean he is called Batman haha!

Other Options-Jayson Tatum and Jaren Jackson Jr

Center - Steven Adams, $24, Memphis Grizzles

What an amazing run Steven Adams has been on recently. He has risen to the occasion and been a monster on the boards. The matchup will be in his favor here and has seen consistent minutes over the past 4 games. I am expecting nothing less than 25 fantasy points from him in this spot. Sticking with the superhero theme, Batman and Aqua-Man unite!

Other Options-Nikola Jokic and Ivica Zubac
