NHL DFS 12-29-23 DraftKings Breakdown

Fantasy Hockey Week 6 Planner

As the NHL content editor here at Fantasy Six Pack, I am aware that one of the things most missing from our amazing NHL coverage is DFS preview articles. That's where the NHL DFS 12-29-23 DraftKings Breakdown enters stage right.

This might become a regular article, but it might not. Give us feedback and let us know your thoughts.

For those who have an F6P Membership and join us on Discord, you probably already know that you can often see my recommendations there. You also know how often how strong those recommendations are. I will likely continue to do so the rest of the week but thought you might want a regular NHL DFS article instead of the usual haphazard recommendations.

Tonight we have a nine-game slate, which is a little bigger than I prefer, but that's still a solid size. And you should know that I prefer to play GPPs, so most of the recommendations below are with that in mind.

With the housekeeping out of the way, let's hit the ice.

G - Charlie Lindgren, Washington Capitals ($7,400)

I know DraftKings usually lists Goalie at the bottom of the roster. However, I like to start with goalie first, as that gives me a better idea of what kind of budget I will be looking at for the rest of my team.

Lindgren has been one of the few bright spots for a Washington team currently on the outside of the playoffs bubble. Washington has won only 53% of their games, yet Lindgren has a 7-3-3 record. Even more impressive is 2.29 GAA and .928 SV%.

The Islanders host the Caps tonight. And the NYI are eighth in goals scored over their last ten games. But I'm not worried as Lindgren still has a .921 save percentage on the road and is averaging 14.8 DKFPs per away game. I think he hits that number at a minimum and at $7400, that's 2x value, making him a solid selection.

Other Options:

Cash and/or High Price Play: Connor Ingram, Arizona Coyotes

After a strong start, Anaheim has struggled and currently has the second-fewest goals this season.

Other GPP Play: Chris Driedger, Seattle Kraken

I suggested him the other day in our Discord channel and boy did he make me look smart. The odds of him maintaining his .974 SV% is pretty slim. But if he starts, and given the matchup against Philadelphia, I think he notches another strong outing.

Team to Stack: Arizona Coyotes

The 'Yotes travel to Anaheim to take on John Gibson and the Ducks. For years, Gibson was one of the most underrated goalies. Unfortunately, he is now simply replacement level, perhaps slightly higher. He is 7-13 (that's not good). In his last ten games, he's given up more than three goals per game and has a .891 save percentage. Again, that's not good.

Meanwhile, Arizona is coming off an impressive win two nights ago the Central-leading Avalanche. Their top line of Clayton Keller, Alex Kerfoot, and Nick Schmaltz will likely not see too much of Anaheim's top-line. Moreover, they also play together on Arizona's top PP line and at $14,300 combined are one of the best top-line values on the slate.  Keller has five points in his last five games and Kerfoot has even more with six points in his last five games. Schmaltz, possibly Arizona's best player, has not been as hot as his linemates. But with 22 points through 34 games, he's still pretty good. I think he gets back on the scoreboard tonight.

You can add their very affordable PP1 teammate Matias Macelli, who has four helpers in his last four games. Macelli is averaging over 11 DKFPs over his last ten as well. And if you want an "onslaught" stack, I wouldn't fault you for adding the white hot D Sean Durzi who has seven points in his last three games.

Other Stacks to Consider:

High Priced--Colorado Avalanche and Dallas Stars

Bargain Priced--Seattle Kraken

Defenseman Options:

High Priced: Roman Josi, Nashville Predators ($7400)

Let's be honest--Josi is always an option. But he's been playing particularly well lately. And I'm not even talking about his amazing save as a skater above.

He has ten points in his last ten games and is averaging a dozen DKFPs per game during that time. Detroit is one of the most generous teams when it comes to allowing fantasy points to opposing defensemen, who Josi will be taking on tonight.

Low Priced: Timothy Liljegren, Toronto Maple Leafs ($3800)

What I love about Liljegren is that he offers us both a great floor as well as a great ceiling at less than $4k. He has two or more blocked shots in each of his last five games. But he also has double-digit DKFPs in three of his last five games.

Toronto will visit Columbus tonight. As expected, Columbus is still struggling to establish itself, especially on the defensive side. They have allowed the third-most goals this season and the second-most goals over their last ten. The Toronto skaters are probably licking their chops and that includes Liljegren.
