Orioles Trade Manny Machado To Dodgers

on

The Baltimore Orioles have agreed to trade All-Star SS Manny Machado to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The deal has Yusniel Diaz, Dean Kremer, Zach Pop, Rylan Bannon and Breyvic Valera all going to Baltimore in return for Manny.

Manny is having a career year, with a K% down to 12.3% vs 16.3% career. Also, his BB% is up to 10.9% vs 7.2% career. He is hitting .315 on .311 BABIP, which not far off his .302 career BABIP.

He has already hit 24 home runs and 21 doubles, leading to a .575 SLG/.260 ISO (.486/.204 career). Machado is one of just 9 players with a 20/20 season at the All-Star break.

Orioles Trade Manny Machado To Dodgers

The Dodgers ranked 8th in the MLB in wOBA in the first half of the season. Now, they add Machado’s career-high .400 wOBA (.350 career) to a lineup that features Max Muncy (.422 wOBA), Matt Kemp (.370), Joc Pederson (.358) and Yasmani Grandal (.351), Cody Bellinger (.344), Chris Taylor (.339) and Justin Turner (.330).

Taylor would move to the OF, opening up the SS position for Machado. With Corey Seager out for the year, this is clearly a rental if Machado does indeed insist on continuing to play SS when he signs a new contract.

Machado will lose Oriole Park at Camden Yards as his home field, where he is hitting .360 this season with 17 home runs. It will be interesting to see how he adjusts.

Camden Yards currently ranks 4th in HR park factors, while Dodgers Stadium ranks 7th.

The Dodgers open up the second half on the road in Milwaukee, before a series in Philadelphia. Both teams were the other frontrunners to land Machado in a trade.

Machado will debut in LA, at Dodgers Stadium, on July 30th, after a 10 game road trip.
