Pelicans Trade Anthony Davis to Lakers

The New Orleans Pelicans have traded Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers will send Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, the 4th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft and two future first-round picks.

It’s a lot to part with, but it’s what the Lakers needed to do to get another superstar player alongside LeBron James.

However, they are now left with no guards!

Rumor has it that Kemba Walker will be their main focus in free agency but could we see D’Angelo Russell return to Los Angeles? If the Brooklyn Nets do indeed sign Kyrie Irving, it appears they will not re-sign Russell.

Pelicans Trade Anthony Davis to Lakers

Good news is, the rumors are dead! It actually happened and we can all move on now. Oh, and the Lakers kept Kyle Kuzma, bravo!

Zion Williamson will join the Pelicans with the first pick in the 2019 NBA Draft on Thursday, June 20th and will have a nice supporting cast around him.

The Lakers, on the other hand, are still a ways away from competing. However, it does help that the Golden State Warriors are going to apparently struggle next year, even if Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson re-sign. They won’t play much recovering from injuries suffered in the NBA Finals.

Nothing really changes here for Fantasy Basketball owners, maybe Kuzma is a little less valuable but I think he will still be a fine player to own in the upcoming season.

Lack of Depth

LeBron James and Anthony Davis are one of the best ways to start a franchise. Problem is, the Lakers have little else.

As mentioned above, they have no point guard at the moment. That’s their main focus in free agency.

Even if they can solve that problem, they don’t have a shooting guard either and in today’s NBA, if you can’t shoot the three ball, you aren’t going to win any Championships.

J.J. Redick might want to consider returning to Los Angeles, this time as a Laker!

If they can sign a top free agent and a shooter like Redick, they will be ok. But still, need to fill out their bench. I don’t see why many veterans would not want to sign with the Lakers, like they did last year in Rajon Rondo, Michael Beasley, etc.

New, New Orleans

Zion Williamson is the face of the Franchise now and with Lonzo Ball, Jrue Holiday?, Brandon Ingram, Julius Randle and the fourth pick in the NBA Draft, they might have something brewing in the bayou.

Update – Randle won’t exercise his $9 mil option and will become a free agent!

If I am David Griffin, I look to move Jrue Holiday before the Memphis Grizzlies can deal Mike Conley. Holiday is a great player and many teams should be willing to offer up a nice package for him.

The Pelicans need to grab a shooter/scorer with their new first round pick (if they keep it), but with Ball, Ingram and Hart in town should they target Darius Garland or Jarret Culver?
